Some external web cameras may need to be adjusted to enable the barcode to be viewed clearly. In this example, rotate the orange viewfinder so that it focuses sharply on the item in front of the camera.

For more information on focusing your camera, please consult the user manual or documentation that was supplied with your camera.

Avoid glare

This barcode is placed too far away from the screen, you can see glare and there is too much light over the barcode.

Avoid shadows

This barcode is not close enough, there are also shadows near it which will stop scanning from being effective.

Avoid back lighting

Here there is too much back lighting, and the CD has not been faced properly towards the web cam.

Must be in focus

Here the web cam hasn’t been focused enough, even though the barcode is in view the web cam cannot see all of the lines clearly. Ensure there is no glare from lights etc and check your viewfinder to make sure it is zoomed in properly! You will need to manually turn it.

Just right

Once you find that perfect setting on your viewfinder, barcode scanning will be easy and you will pick it up in no time and have your cd catalogue scanned in and your money will be increasing per scan!

Macro Option

If your web cam has the macro setting please adjust to the specification below:

You can choose macro option on your web cam to make the lense focus on a much closer object such as your cd,dvd or game. If you go onto your camera settings on the built in camera on your laptop or your software and find the option within you will see the macro option, click it and ensure that your web cam is focused and you will achieve better results!

When scanning you must always ensure that your web cam is set to scan at a close range.

In some cases your camera can support zooming in through either the auto zoom function on the camera (usually included in the software with Logitech and other companies etc) or by using the viewfinder on the front of the camera,

Normally if you tighten your web cams viewfinder to the RIGHT you will get a sharper image on the item which is closer to that web cam, when you are finished scanning barcodes and wish to return to your normal state loosen the web cams viewfinder to the LEFT to see yourself in focus again!

For best barcode scanning results, move your viewfinder to the right to the tightest possible, this will make you seem out of focus in the web cams view on the plug in on our site! Then try holding your barcode up to it, presenting the barcode in a frontal manner so that the web cam can see the whole of the barcode, to increase the chance of a successful scan hold the barcode up and reduce the amount of shine reflecting off the case.

When you have set your web cam up to the best setting and your barcode has been successfully scanned you then know the method and it is easy to pick up!

The web cam must be able to see the whole of the barcode!
Put the barcode just in sight don’t push it too far forward so that the web cam cant see it all!
Ensure you do your scanning in a room where there is not overhead lights directly over your web cam as it will shine off the case!
Ensure there is no glare on the case at all else the barcode scanner won’t work!
