Computer giant Microsoft have addressed potential issues with AI in their latest quarterly report.<\/p>\n
Microsoft are heavily invested into artificial intelligence technology but its investors were told that the image of the company may be harmed, if the tech goes awry \u201d\u201c which is a possibility.<\/p>\n
Should there be any issue with Microsoft\u2019s AI offering, the company has said that \u201cmay result in reputational harm or liability.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s clear across the tech space that there is an immense wealth of possibility with AI, but until we can truly understand what it\u2019s capable of, we\u2019re going to hit a few bumps in the road.<\/p>\n
Microsoft is reiterating the fact that in order to become truly smart technology, there has to be a learning curve.<\/p>\n
In their report, Microsoft stated, \u201cAI algorithms may be flawed. Datasets may be insufficient or contain biased information. Inappropriate or controversial data practices by Microsoft or others could impair the acceptance of AI solutions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese deficiencies could undermine the decisions, predictions or analysis AI applications produce, subjecting us to competitive harm, legal liability, and brand or reputational harm.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n
Microsoft are understandably treading lightly when it comes to AI, following Joy Buolamwini\u2019s research at MIT Media Lab. Her report showed that Microsoft\u2019s facial-recognition systems had a 21% error rate for darker-skinned women.<\/p>\n
In spite of Microsoft\u2019s caution for where AI will go and what it can mean, they have stated they are \u201cbuilding AI into many of our offerings and we expect this element of our business to grow\u201d\u009d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
