You wouldn\u2019t guess that from playing the mobile version though, which boasts graphics and gameplay that put a lot of modern games to shame.<\/p>\n<p>The mobile version of <i>Broken Sword<\/i> is a remake of the original game, <i>Shadows of the Templar<\/i>, and sees players guide main characters Nico Collard and George Stobbart through a dark conspiracy involving the Knights Templar.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll struggle to find a better game than <i>Broken Sword<\/i> on the App Store or Google Play and it only costs a bargain \u00a34.99.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Broken Sword: Director\u2019s Cut: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/broken-sword-directors-cut\/id350353259?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=uk.co.revolution.bs1dc&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>NBA Jam<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/nba-jam.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1096\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/nba-jam.png\" alt=\"NBA Jam\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/nba-jam.png 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/nba-jam-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like <i>FIFA<\/i>, <i>NBA Jam<\/i> is an enjoyable game even if you don\u2019t know anything about the sport involved (in this case, basketball).<\/p>\n<p>Combining realistic games and real-life players with weird and wonderful moments like your players setting on fire if they score a certain amount of baskets, <i>NBA Jam <\/i>is a cult classic and perfect for a quick blast on the bus or train.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NBA Jam: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/en\/app\/nba-jam-by-ea-sports\/id402370879?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.eamobile.nbajam_row_wf&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Another World<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/another-world1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1098\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/another-world1.png\" alt=\"Another World\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/another-world1.png 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/another-world1-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The joint oldest game on our list is also one of the best. <i>Another World<\/i> is a platforming adventure in which players have to guide a scientist around a hostile alien planet after an experiment goes wrong.<\/p>\n<p><i>Another World<\/i> was released in 1991, a time when games were tougher than a well-done steak cooked by Phil Mitchell. The mobile version is more forgiving than the original, but still presents enough of a challenge to keep even the most hardcore of gamers busy.<\/p>\n<p>While a lot of casual mobile gamers will find <i>Another World<\/i> too difficult (and too time-consuming) for their liking, those who stick with it will enjoy one of the most rewarding gaming experiences on mobile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another World: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/another-world-20th-anniversary\/id460076328?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.dotemu.anotherworld&amp;hl=en\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/sonic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1099\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/sonic.png\" alt=\"sonic\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/sonic.png 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/sonic-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The original Sonic game has been released on so many platforms that it\u2019d be amazing if anyone <i>hasn\u2019t<\/i> played it by now.<\/p>\n<p>But this particular version is well worth shelling out for, taking the best bits of the classic Mega Drive game and remastering them for mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>Our only gripe is that the on-screen controls aren\u2019t as good as using a controller, but this is about as good as Sonic is going to get on mobile devices. Plus, it\u2019s ridiculously cheap.<\/p>\n<p>If the original Sonic doesn\u2019t tickle your fancy, <i>Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/i> (the bigger and possibly better sequel) is available on iOS and Android as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sonic the Hedgehog: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/en\/app\/sonic-the-hedgehog\/id316025912?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.sega.sonic1&amp;hl=en\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Alien Breed<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/alien-breed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1100\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/alien-breed.jpg\" alt=\"Alien Breed\" width=\"800\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/alien-breed.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/alien-breed-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This cult classic is the most obscure game in this post, coming out on the Amiga (remember that?) in 1991.<\/p>\n<p><i>Alien Breed<\/i> is heavily inspired by the <i>Alien<\/i> movies, putting players on a far-flung planet with just a machine gun and an army of brain-sucking nasties for company. And that\u2019s about the extent of it really; you shoot aliens, you run for the exit and you occasionally have to fight a massive boss.<\/p>\n<p>The port is faithful to the original Amiga game, which, in simple terms, means that it\u2019s awesome. You also get the 1992 version of the game, which includes more levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alien Breed: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/alien-breed\/id530474983?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.team17.ab&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>GTA: Vice City<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/vice-city-android.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1101\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/vice-city-android.jpg\" alt=\"Vice City\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/vice-city-android.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/vice-city-android-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gamers were left speechless by the sheer size of <i>Vice City<\/i> when it first hit PS2 in 2002, and they were probably left speechless again when they found out they could play the whole game on their phone in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s amazing that Rockstar have managed to get their 80s epic onto mobile devices, but here it is in its full glory, and it\u2019s every bit as good as you remember.<\/p>\n<p>The only issue we found was (again) the touch screen control system, which doesn\u2019t work that well with the amount of on-screen buttons the game requires to play. We\u2019d recommend plugging a dedicated controller into your device before playing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GTA: Vice City: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/grand-theft-auto-vice-city\/id578448682?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.rockstargames.gtavc&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Crazy Taxi<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/crazy-taxi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1102\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/crazy-taxi.jpg\" alt=\"Crazy Taxi\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/crazy-taxi.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/crazy-taxi-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Crazy Taxi <\/i>is another relatively recent game that\u2019s made the successful leap onto mobile devices. Unlike <i>Vice City<\/i>, though, it almost feels as if the Dreamcast classic\u2019s gameplay is better suited to quickfire mobile gaming, with players having to tear around the streets picking up and dropping off punters in an increasingly short space of time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crazy Taxi: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/crazy-taxi\/id553921725?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.sega.CrazyTaxi&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Final Fantasy IV<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ff-iv.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1103\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ff-iv.png\" alt=\"FF IV\" width=\"750\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ff-iv.png 750w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/ff-iv-300x180.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mobile RPGs have generally been limited to top-down adventure games in the style of <i>Pokemon<\/i> or <i>Phantasy Star.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>With <i>Final Fantasy<\/i> <i>IV<\/i>, however, Square Enix has taken things to the next level. It looks and plays like one of the classic Playstation <i>Final Fantasy<\/i> games, and is as good as some of the best RPGs on the Nintendo DS.<\/p>\n<p>This definitely isn\u2019t one for a quick 5 minute session, but it\u2019s recommended for any looking to sink a few hours into a mobile game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Fantasy IV: <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/gb\/app\/final-fantasy-iv\/id575119311?mt=8\">iOS<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIV_GP&amp;hl=en_GB\">Android<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>What are your favourite retro games on mobile?
