{"id":1448,"date":"2014-08-15T15:35:09","date_gmt":"2014-08-15T15:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/?p=1448"},"modified":"2021-09-20T08:53:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-20T07:53:48","slug":"guns-guns-guns-the-best-movies-made-by-the-cast-of-the-expendables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/2014\/08\/15\/guns-guns-guns-the-best-movies-made-by-the-cast-of-the-expendables\/","title":{"rendered":"Guns, guns, guns: the best movies made by the cast of The Expendables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zimmer-frame mounted machine guns at the ready, everyone: the Expendables are back for another round of guns, glory and stunts that no man over the age of 50 should be attempting.<\/p>\n<p>The cast of <i>The Expendables 3<\/i> reads like a who\u2019s-who of action movies, with legendary muscle-bound stalwarts like Stallone and Schwarzenegger crushing skulls when they should probably be playing bridge, or complaining about the local youths riding their bikes on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the collective cast of <i>The Expendables 3<\/i> have made a lot of movies between them \u201d\u201c here are some of our favourites (please note: we\u2019ve only picked one movie per actor; otherwise, this post would consist solely of Harrison Ford and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Blade Runner<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KPcZHjKJBnE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Harrison Ford.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This sci-fi noir classic from one of the new members of <i>The Expendables<\/i> has influenced everything from <i>Inception<\/i> to <i>Sin City<\/i>, with its stunning visuals and mind-bending plot.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, Harrison has never been cooler than as a hard-boiled detective hunting down androids (sorry, Indy fans).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>The Road Warrior<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gdv5EtZQ6jg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mel Gibson.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Our Mel comes to the rescue of a post-apocalyptic outpost under siege from an army of beefcakes in bondage gear. <i>The Road Warrior <\/i>is every bit as ridiculous as it sounds, with possibly the greatest car chase ever committed to film.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Bmf-HCCZYOg\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Terminator 2: Judgement Day<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eajuMYNYtuY\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who&#8217;s in it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Arnold \u201d\u02dcArnie\u2019 Schwarzenegger.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You might have noticed that Arnold Schwarzenegger, despite having legions of dedicated fans, isn\u2019t that great of an actor.<\/p>\n<p>But who else on the planet could have taken on the role of an emotionless cyborg with an Austrian accent and made it their own? Not Robert de Niro, that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n<p>Joking aside, Arnie\u2019s performance \u201d\u201c and his underappreciated comic timing \u201d\u201c make <i>Terminator 2<\/i> the film it is, a brilliant action romp that is equal parts thrilling, terrifying and funny.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Rocky<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3VUblDwa648\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Sylvester Stallone.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Oscars, baby. Stallone\u2019s tale of a deadbeat boxer who takes a pop at the champ captured the hearts and minds of movie fans (and the famously hard-to-please Academy) everywhere when it was released in 1976, catapulting Sly to stardom and marking the beginning of a career which didn\u2019t exactly continue down the same path (<i>Stop or My Mum Will Shoot, <\/i>anyone?)<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Rocky remains a classic and is still Stallone\u2019s best film by far.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Masters of the Universe<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CF20B8p4F08\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Dolph Lundgren (AKA Ivan Drago from <i>Rocky IV<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not. It\u2019s actually pretty rubbish. For full-on kitsch &#8217;80s action though, it simply cannot be beaten. BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Lock, Stock &amp; Two Smoking Barrels<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WoZ2kTlwKTk\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Jason Statham.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>It introduced the world to the wonderful \u201d\u02dcLondon gangsters undertaking a stupid scheme\u2019 genre, as well as everyone\u2019s favourite bald hard man (who isn\u2019t Phil Mitchell). Actually, that first one probably isn\u2019t a good thing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Hero<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/srFhXDZhUZI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Jet Li.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Two words: amazing kung-fu.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Bridesmaids<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FNppLrmdyug\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>None other than Terry Crews.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Alright, so it\u2019s not particularly macho but <i>Bridesmaids <\/i>is a very, very funny film. Crews, in case you were wondering, plays to type as a very angry boot camp instructor.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>White Men Can\u2019t Jump<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ebIGjo3Fzlc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Who\u2019s in it? <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Wesley Snipes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Why is it good?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>1. Woody Harrelson plays a hustler who is incredible at basketball (which is especially weird if you watch <i>True Detective<\/i> before <i>White Man Can\u2019t Jump.<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>2. Wesley Snipes is incredible as fellow hustler Syd Deane.<\/p>\n<p>3. It has the best title ever.<\/p>\n<p>Which of the many films made by the cast of <i>The Expendables<\/i> is your favourite?
