Often, the artists aren\u2019t even involved in selecting the tracks.<\/p>\n<p>There are, however, quite a few exceptions to the rule. This album collects the best of both, with most of their singles up to 1985 included.<\/p>\n<p>There is another Cure greatest hits collections available (the surprisingly-titled <i>Greatest Hits<\/i>) which features many of the same tracks, but which weirdly decides to ignore some of the band\u2019s gothier tracks and replaces them with newer songs. He\u2019s tackled pop, glam rock, electronica, disco, funk, soul, folk; you name it, and Bowie has probably done it.<\/p>\n<p>This diversity makes getting into the great man\u2019s music quite difficult. Luckily, <i>Best of Bowie<\/i> collects the singles from each of Dave\u2019s phases into 2 handy CDs.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s ideal starting point for Bowie virgins, helping them discover their favourite era of Bowie without having to splash out on loads of albums.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Number Ones \u201d\u201c Michael Jackson<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/michael-jackson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1782\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/michael-jackson.jpg\" alt=\"Michael Jackson\" width=\"336\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/michael-jackson.jpg 336w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/michael-jackson-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/michael-jackson-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Michael Jackson is one of those rare artists whose singles are also his best songs. You can listen to all of the MJ albums you like, but <i>Billie Jean, Bad, Beat it <\/i>and<i>&#8230;<\/i>erm,<i> Earth Song<\/i> will always be the songs you\u2019re singing after.<\/p>\n<p><i>Number Ones<\/i> takes all of Jacko\u2019s hit and sticks them on a single CD. It\u2019s a pretty daunting prospect if you\u2019re listening to the Man in Black for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, there is one collection that stands out: <i>The Legend of Johnny Cash<\/i>. Although it\u2019s quite hard to get your hands on in the UK, it features the best of Johnny\u2019s country material, as well as his later work with Rick Rubin on the <i>American<\/i> series (which spawned his now classic cover of Nine Inch Nails\u2019 <i>Hurt<\/i>).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Greatest Hits \u201d\u201c Queen<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/queen-greatest-hits.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1786\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/queen-greatest-hits.jpg\" alt=\"Queen Greatest Hits\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/queen-greatest-hits.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/queen-greatest-hits-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/queen-greatest-hits-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We couldn\u2019t leave this one out. It\u2019s the biggest selling album in the UK ever, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officialcharts.com\/chart-news\/the-official-top-40-biggest-selling-albums-of-all-time-2288\/\">over 6 million copies sold<\/a> (it was the first album to ever achieve this milestone in the UK; it was shortly followed by <i>ABBA Gold <\/i>and <i>Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/i>). Every track is a barnstormer, from <i>Bohemian Rhapsody <\/i>to <i>Another Bites The Dust<\/i>. In short, it\u2019s everything a greatest hits album should be!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Of course, greatest hits albums are only really a gateway into an artist\u2019s music.
