Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare<\/i> is now officially on shelves, but is it actually worth buying?<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve trawled the web and pulled together a few opinions from some of the finest games journalists around. Suit up, soldier!<\/p>\n
The notoriously harsh Eurogamer only gave Call of Duty: Ghosts<\/i><\/a> 7\/10<\/a> (which isn\u2019t a bad score, but is certainly lower than you\u2019d expect for a Call of Duty<\/i> game), and they published a (brilliant) piece on the long shadow the original <\/a>Modern Warfare<\/i><\/a> had cast over the franchise<\/a> a couple of days ago: it wasn\u2019t looking good for Advanced Warfare<\/i>.<\/p>\n Well, we needn\u2019t have worried. Eurogamer call Advanced Warfare<\/i><\/a> \u201d\u02dcthe finest <\/a>Call of Duty <\/i><\/a>in years\u2019<\/a>, with special praise reserved for the futuristic settings, the new abilities granted by the exosuit and, surprisingly, the campaign (which clocks in at 7 hours rather than the typical 5 or so).<\/p>\n Eurogamer haven\u2019t given Advanced Warfare<\/i> a score yet, as they\u2019re planning to publish a full review based on playing on the live multiplayer servers. However, the signals are positive.<\/p>\n Gamespot\u2019s Miguel Concepcion awards <\/a>Advanced Warfare<\/i><\/a> 8\/10<\/a>, praising the \u201d\u02dccontent-rich multiplayer\u2019 and the \u201d\u02dcfuturistic combat tech and gear\u2019.<\/p>\n The review describes the abundance of progression options in the game\u2019s multiplayer mode as erring on \u201d\u02dcthe side of excess\u2019. Sledgehammer has included loads of multiplayer game modes too, a decision Gamespot describe as being like \u201d\u02dcsaying \u201clet\u2019s give the fans every mode imaginable and let them decide what will be the popular mode in six months\u2019 time\u201d\u009d\u2019.<\/p>\n Concluding, Conception says: \u201d\u02dcAdvanced Warfare makes for a convincing foundation of futuristic yet relatable combat that is worth exploring and expanding further.\u2019 Sounds like an endorsement to us!<\/p>\n We love a good pun and IGN deliver with a single word corker<\/a>: \u201d\u02dcExo-llent\u2019<\/i>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s pretty clear from the outset that IGN\u2019s reviewer Brian Albert loves the game, calling it \u201d\u02dcthe biggest and most successful departure from what’s expected from a Call of Duty<\/i> game since Modern Warfare<\/i>\u2019 and \u201d\u02dcfaster and more focused than any Call of Duty<\/i> game before it.\u2019<\/p>\n As with the Gamespot review, Advanced Warfare\u2019s <\/i>slightly cheesy plot comes in for some criticism, although the mechanics of the campaign are praised, such as the renewed focus on interactivity rather than the standard quicktime \u201d\u02dcpress X to do this\u2019 event.<\/p>\n The multiplayer is also praised for its selection of maps and modes. All in all, IGN give Advanced Warfare <\/i>a very impressive 9.1\/10.<\/p>\n Polygon<\/a> open with high praise for Advanced Warfare<\/i>, stating the production values, excellently-balanced campaign and additions to multiplayer \u201d\u02dc…might be enough to chase away bad memories of Ghosts<\/i>.\u2019<\/p>\n Again, the plot is the main element singled out for criticism, but on the whole, Advanced Warfare<\/i> is described as a leap forward for the series \u201d\u02dcwith vision and remarkable execution.\u201d\u02dc<\/p>\n Polygon gave the game a lovely 9\/10.<\/p>\n It\u2019s always a good sign when several reviews pick up on the same positives and negatives, so it\u2019s almost reassuring to see GamesRadar<\/a> criticise Advanced Warfare\u2019s<\/i> plot and save their praise for the \u201d\u02dcfresh gameplay mechanics\u2019 and \u201d\u02dcthe massive multiplayer offering\u2019. They give the game another near-perfect 4\/5.<\/p>\n So, based on the reviews, it appears that Advanced Warfare<\/i> is one of the best entries in the Call of Duty<\/i> series to date.<\/p>\n
