After the success of <i>Anchorman 2<\/i> and <i>Dumb and Dumber To<\/i>, movie execs are tripping over themselves to revive long dormant-but-beloved franchises.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve already got <i>Jurassic World<\/i> and <i>Star Wars: The Force Awakens <\/i>(the trailer for which is released later today) on the way, and yesterday <i>Independence Day 2 <\/i>was confirmed for 2016. Those are just the tip of the metaphorical sequel iceberg, though. Here are some more sequels to classic movies heading to a cinema near you soon&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Independence Day 2<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/independence-day.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2569\" alt=\"Independence Day\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/independence-day.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/independence-day.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/independence-day-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with yesterday\u2019s announcement. <i>Independence Day 2<\/i> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/new\/Independence-Day-2-Happening-Here-Details-68417.html\">hitting cinemas in June 2016<\/a>, just under 20 years after the original, with original director Roland Emmerich, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum all set to return. Will Smith, however, is missing in action.<\/p>\n<p>No-one has said much about the plot yet, but we\u2019re willing to bet that it involves angry aliens and the odd landmark being blown up by space-lasers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Blade Runner 2<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/blade-runner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2570\" alt=\"Blade Runner\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/blade-runner.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/blade-runner.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/blade-runner-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Blade Runner 2<\/i> has been rumoured for quite a long time, but we know though that it\u2019s definitely in the works after original director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2014\/nov\/26\/ridley-scott-blade-runner-sequel-wont-direct\">Ridley Scott confirmed that we won\u2019t be directing it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Plot details are thin on the ground but Harrison Ford will definitely be in it. However, Scott has said Ford will only appear in the film\u2019s third act, after a new group try to track his character Deckard down.<\/p>\n<p>Given <i>Blade Runner\u2019s <\/i>legendary status, there\u2019s a lot of pressure on whoever takes the director\u2019s role to get this right. We certainly wouldn\u2019t want to be in their shoes&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Beverly Hills Cop 4<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kh3wcEFOG2E\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Eddie Murphy is reprising his role as Axel Foley for this long-planned sequel, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt3083016\/\">set to be released in 2016<\/a> (AKA the year of the sequel). Apparently, it\u2019ll feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denofgeek.com\/movies\/beverly-hills-cop\/31405\/brett-ratner-wants-r-rated-beverly-hills-cop-4\">Murphy swearing and being naughty like in the olden days<\/a> before he decided putting on a fat suit is the best way to generate laughs (it isn\u2019t). Hooray!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Ghostbusters 3<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ghostbusters.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2571\" alt=\"Ghostbusters\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ghostbusters.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ghostbusters.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ghostbusters-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s get the bad news out of the way first: Bill Murray has more or less said that he won\u2019t be appearing in this, so don\u2019t get your hopes up too much.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, after Harold Ramis\u2019 sad death earlier this year, it\u2019s looking like Dan Ackroyd might be the only original Ghostbuster making an appearance.<\/p>\n<p>It might not matter, though, because director Paul Feig \u201d\u201c who directed <i>Bridesmaids<\/i> and <i>The Heat<\/i> \u201d\u201c has revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/ghostbusters-reboot-lands-heat-writer-738556?utm_source=twitter\">the film will focus on a new team consisting solely of funny women<\/a>. So it\u2019s not really a sequel, but it kind of is. Erm&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Jingle All The Way 2<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UVstztozgvg\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Yes, it\u2019s true: there\u2019s going to be a sequel to the \u201d\u02dcbeloved\u2019 Arnie Christmas classic, which gloriously captures the spirit of Christmas by depicting a near-psychopathic Austrian furniture salesman taking increasingly crazy measures to secure his son a doll before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Arnie doesn\u2019t appear in <i>Jingle All The Way 2<\/i>. Instead, Larry The Cable Guy &#8211; a US comedian who is carving a niche as \u201d\u02dcthat bloke who replaces beefcake actors in family comedies\u2019 after replacing The Rock for <i>The Tooth Fairy 2<\/i> &#8211; will be the poor sap trying to get his daughter a sold-out toy called That Harrison Bear.<\/p>\n<p>In a rather odd twist, the film is being produced by the WWE &#8211; surely Arnie would have been perfect for the main role?<\/p>\n<p><i>Jingle All The Way 2<\/i> comes out on DVD next month.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Mad Max: Fury Road<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cdLl1GVjOrc\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>29 years after Mel Gibson returned to the Thunderdome, he\u2019s finally back \u201d\u201c except he looks a lot like Tom Hardy now.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, Gibson is out and Hardy is in as \u201d\u02dcMad\u2019 Max, the road warrior who enjoys nothing more than speeding across the desert while being chased by baddies in questionable gear.<\/p>\n<p><i>Fury Road<\/i> has been in development for 25 years, with creator George Miller experimenting with various scripts and filming styles (it was going to be animated at one point) before settling on Hardy in 2009. It\u2019s been described as a \u201d\u02dcWestern on wheels\u2019 and is being released next May.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Top Gun 2<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/maverick.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2572\" alt=\"Maverick\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/maverick.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/maverick.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/maverick-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tom Cruise is clearing feeling the need for speed. He\u2019s confirmed that he\u2019s pressing ahead with <i>Top Gun 2<\/i>, the classic 80s film about <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">male volleyball players<\/span> fighter pilots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.people.com\/article\/top-gun-sequel-planned-tom-cruise-returns\">A writer was appointed in September<\/a>, and Cruise will definitely be returning as Maverick. The plot will focus on the role of pilots in the age of drone warfare, so it\u2019ll basically be 2 hours of Cruise outwitting stupid robots with his ace <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">volleyball<\/span> pilot skills.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Triplets<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtlB7q96NMs\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i>Twins<\/i> is a late-80s comedy based entirely on the idea that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito don\u2019t look much like each other, yet find out they\u2019re actually twins.<\/p>\n<p>News is thin on this sequel, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalspy.co.uk\/movies\/news\/a485675\/arnold-schwarzenegger-gives-terminator-conan-triplets-updates.html#~oWUlN0ZLYXyldG\">it\u2019s been more or less confirmed by Arnie himself<\/a> that the twins will find out they have a third sibling who turns out to be<i> Eddie flippin\u2019 Murphy! <\/i>Expect a healthy dollop of hilarious consequences.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Zoolander 2<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YtQq0T3ExLs\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1608290\/\"><i>Zoolander 2 <\/i>is going to be written and directed by Justin Theroux<\/a> and will see Hansel and Derek under threat from younger and more ridiculously (ridiculouslier?) good looking models.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell are all returning, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2014\/nov\/21\/penelope-cruz-set-for-zoolander-2\">Penelope Cruz has also been added to the cast<\/a>.
