{"id":2938,"date":"2015-01-02T11:42:21","date_gmt":"2015-01-02T11:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/?p=2938"},"modified":"2015-02-02T11:22:03","modified_gmt":"2015-02-02T11:22:03","slug":"januarys-new-releases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/01\/02\/januarys-new-releases\/","title":{"rendered":"January\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new releases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January is always a bumper month for new releases, with the year\u2019s Oscar contenders (a few of which have been out Stateside for a while) finally hitting our shores and a lot of musicians making an early play for domination of the airwaves.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Movies<\/h3>\n<h4>1<sup>st<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>Birdman<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uJfLoE6hanc\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This tale of a washed-up actor, who used to star in a major superhero franchise, attempting to revive his career is being tipped to sweep up at the Oscars, which is as good as reason as any to go and check it out. The all-star cast includes Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Edward Norton and Zach Galifinakis.<\/p>\n<h4>The Theory of Everything<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Salz7uGp72c\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nA biopic of Stephen Hawking\u2019s relationship with his first wife, Jayne, and his struggle with illness. Lead actor Eddie Redmayne has been tipped for an Oscar for his performance as Hawking.<\/p>\n<h4>The Woman in Black: The Angel of Death<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eYk0slXSY6s\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nA poor group of orphans are moved from their home in London to a creepy house in the country. Unfortunately, that house turns out to Eel Marsh House, where Daniel Radcliffe had the life scared out of him in the first film. This one probably won\u2019t win any Oscars, although it looks quite scary.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>8<sup>th<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>Taken 3<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JuU0M2xBasc\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nBryan Mills is back, although he\u2019s the one being pursued this time after being framed for a murder he didn\u2019t commit. If you\u2019ve seen either of the previous films, you\u2019ll know what to expect here.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>9<sup>th<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>Foxcatcher<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8361stZ8n0w\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nSteve Carrell is unrecognisable as Olympic wrestling trainer John du Pont in this disturbing real-life tale of the Foxcatcher wrestling team, and du Pont\u2019s relationship with its two biggest stars, the Schultz brothers (played by Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo).<\/p>\n<h4>Into The Woods<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2Byk9Is3TjY\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThis modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales sees Meryl Streep place a curse on a baker and his wife. To break the curse, they must find various items from fairy tales.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>16<sup>th<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>American Sniper<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5bP1f_1o-zo\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nClint Eastwood directs this drama, which is based on the true story of one of the US army\u2019s greatest snipers. Bradley Cooper stars as Navy Seal Chris Kyle, while Sienna Miller portrays his wife.<\/p>\n<h4>Wild<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tn2-GSqPyl0\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAnother real-life story! Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl Strayed, who goes on a remarkable 1,100 mile solo hike to get over a recent catastrophe.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>23<sup>rd<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>Mortdecai<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aW_sfxUnbZA\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nGet ready, everyone: it\u2019s time for the annual \u201d\u02dcJohnny Depp wearing a silly costume and putting on a funny voice\u2019 movie! To be fair, Mortdecai \u201d\u201c in which Depp plays an art dealer searching for a painting which hides the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold \u201d\u201c does look pretty funny. Depp fans won\u2019t want to miss it.<\/p>\n<h4>Ex Machina<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EoQuVnKhxaM\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nDirected by Alex Garland, who wrote <i>28 Days Later<\/i> and <i>Sunshine<\/i>, <i>Ex Machina<\/i> follows a young coder who takes part in an experiment to interact with the world\u2019s first true artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<h4>The Gambler<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y5gPQXbFs9Y\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nMark Wahlberg fronts this remake of the James Caan film of the same name, which sees an English lit professor and gambling addict get in very, very deep with some very nasty people.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>30<sup>th<\/sup> January<\/h4>\n<h4>Big Hero 6<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z3biFxZIJOQ\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nDisney\u2019s latest animation is essentially <i>The Avengers<\/i> for young kids, with lovable robot Baymax and his prodigy Hiro forming a band of heroes to protect the Earth. Grownups will love it too.<\/p>\n<h4>Inherent Vice<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wZfs22E7JmI\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nPaul Thomas Anderson, of <i>There Will Be Blood<\/i> and <i>The Master<\/i> fame, directs this 1970s noir tale, which follows a drug-taking detective (Joaquin Phoenix) as he investigates the kidnapping of an ex-girlfriend.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Music<\/h3>\n<h4>12<sup>th<\/sup><\/h4>\n<h4>Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper \u201d\u201c Panda Bear<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CmXIIL2tmR8\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe founding member of Animal Collective releases his 5<sup>th<\/sup> solo album, which apparently takes its inspiration from, among other things, 1990s hip-hop.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>19<sup>th<\/sup><\/h4>\n<h4>The Mindsweep \u201d\u201c Enter Shikari<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8O72jXoMIkg\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe 4<sup>th<\/sup> album from St. Alban\u2019s premier electronic hardcore band. Their last album came agonisingly close to hitting #1 on the albums chart; can they do it with <i>The Mindsweep?<\/i><\/p>\n<h4>American Beauty\/American Psycho \u201d\u201c Fall Out Boy<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LBr7kECsjcQ\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAfter their successful return in 2013, Fall Out Boy are back with another round of high-energy pop punk.<\/p>\n<h4>The Pale Emperor \u201d\u201c Marilyn Manson<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KRKsF17wY30\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nBest known for his shock rock, Manson\u2019s latest album is apparently heavily influenced by the blues and \u201d\u02dcretro biker rock\u2019.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>26<sup>th<\/sup><\/h4>\n<h4>Uptown Special \u201d\u201c Mark Ronson<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OPf0YbXqDm0\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAfter <i>Uptown Funk<\/i> more or less took over the world\u2019s collective ears at the end of 2014, Mark Ronson will release <i>Uptown Special<\/i> towards the end of January.
