The previous films, both of which received poor reviews, made just over $600m (around \u00a3400m) between them at the box office; if<em> Taken 3<\/em> performs as well, Bryan Mills\u2019 adventures will have made nearly <em>$1 billion <\/em>worldwide!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some more critically-slammed franchises that have made ridiculous amounts of money. Film critics: you might want to sit down before reading on&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Saw<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HKPy5RWuqNA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Average Rotten Tomatoes score: <\/strong>26%<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worldwide box office total: <\/strong>$873 million (around \u00a3577m)<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Saw<\/em> franchise is proof that where there is a will, there is a way. Despite the main antagonist disappearing around the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> film, <em>Saw<\/em> went strong 8 films before finally ending with <em>Saw 3D<\/em> (which scored 9% with critics).<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the series was a massive success at the box office and, crucially, made a lot of people a lot of money. The 8 films cost just $64m to make, which means they turned over a staggering $809m in profit! It\u2019s no wonder the producers have said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/movies\/news\/124066-saw-producers-say-its-time-for-a-new-film\">it\u2019s \u201d\u02dctime\u2019 for a new film<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Resident Evil<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PWUT4CXWcwQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Average Rotten Tomatoes score: <\/strong>26%<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worldwide box office total: <\/strong>$916 million (around \u00a3606m)<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Resident Evil <\/em>films bear little resemblance to the video games that inspired them, with slow-burning horror replaced by kung-fu and clones. It&#8217;s fair to say they won&#8217;t be in any critics&#8217; top 10 list.<\/p>\n<p>That hasn\u2019t stopped fans flocking to the cinema, however, and <a title=\"the (apparently) final film\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2592614\/?ref_=nv_sr_1\">the (apparently) final film<\/a> released next year is likely to push the franchise past the $1bn mark.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Scary Movie<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_dktIVAfjzY\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Average Rotten Tomatoes score: <\/strong>29%<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worldwide box office total: <\/strong>$895 million (around \u00a3590m)<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Scary <\/em><em>Movie<\/em> franchise isn&#8217;t exactly associated with critical acclaim, despite the 1st film being a lot better than people remember.<\/p>\n<p>Still, each film turned a profit, despite diminishing returns; the first film grossed over $200 million, while the 5<sup>th<\/sup> grossed just over $70m. You can probably expect a 6<sup>th<\/sup> film soon&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Transformers<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dnD_Ar0P9dg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Average Rotten Tomatoes score: <\/strong>32%<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worldwide box office total: <\/strong>$3.7 billion (around \u00a32.4 billion)<\/p>\n<p>If you ever need proof of the disconnect between film critics and the movie-going public, look no further than the <em>Transformers <\/em>series. Michael Bay\u2019s franchise is regularly slated, but is still the 8<sup>th<\/sup> highest-grossing film series of all time. We\u2019re sure everyone involved in the films can\u2019t hear the criticism from the top of their massive pile of money though.
