This week, it’s the turn of Hype Machine, an app that helps you find new music without having to spend hours searching the web.

What is it?

Hype Machine compiles the most-talked about music on the web by monitoring over 800 blogs and delivers it to you in easy-to-search chunks. You can listen to tracks in the app and see what your friends have been checking out too.

Why is it surprisingly easy?

We’re exposed to more music online than it’s physically possible to comprehend; if you tried to listen to every new track that every band posts online, you’d never have time to do anything else!

Even trawling through the 800 blogs Hype Machine uses would take up most of your time, so it’s extremely handy having a quick at-a-glance view of the latest bands and best new music.

The best bit

The ”˜most popular tracks of the day’ is a useful way of cutting through the still-substantial amount of music Hype Machine posts. If your friends use the app too, the social features are a good way of sharing your favourite new music (rather than telling your friends at the pub and them forgetting after a couple of pints).

Plus, you can impress everyone with your intimate knowledge of the latest music. You might even be able to wing yourself a job on the radio!

The downside

There is still a lot of music to check out, although Hype Machine does its best to help you find the tune you’re most likely to be interested in.

A quick look at the reviews suggests that some users have been experiencing playback issues too, although this wasn’t a problem during our tests.

Download Hype Machine on iOS | Download Hype Machine on Android

Which apps have made your life surprisingly easy? Let us know in the comments and we may feature them in future posts.

If you’ve got a spare minute, why not give our own surprisingly easy app a go? It’s an even easier way to sell DVDs and Games, as well as CDs and Electronics!

Every week, we shine a light on an app that will make your life easier.
