The event is widely considered as a precursor to the Oscars and is arguably the biggest night in the British film calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, you won\u2019t want to miss out on the all the exciting post-awards chat so here\u2019s everything you need to know about the event in one quick post!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Film: Boyhood<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ys-mbHXyWX4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Richard Linklater\u2019s family drama, which was shot over 12 years using the same actors, took home the big prize &#8211; as it\u2019s widely expected to do at the Oscars.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne &#8211; <i>The Theory of Everything<\/i><\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Salz7uGp72c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He was the hot favourite but it was still nice to see Brit Eddie Redmayne pick up the Best Actor gong for his performance as Stephen Hawking in <i>The Theory of Everything<\/i> on home turf. He\u2019s already won a Golden Globe for his performance, so an Oscar is looking increasingly likely.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Actress: Julianne Moore &#8211; <i>Still Alice<\/i><\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZrXrZ5iiR0o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The actress, who has been nominated for 4 Oscars but has never won, has now picked up the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for her role as an Alzheimer\u2019s patient in <i>Still Alice<\/i>. Surely she&#8217;ll finally win an Oscar?!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Director: Richard Linklater &#8211; <i>Boyhood<\/i><\/h4>\n<p>The man spent <i>12 years<\/i> directing one film! That kind of dedication deserves an award by default, although it helps that <i>Boyhood<\/i> is a cracking film too.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Supporting Actor: JK Simmons &#8211; <i>Whiplash<\/i><\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7d_jQycdQGo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Simmons&#8217; role as the world\u2019s scariest drum teacher will probably put a generation of kids off learning an instrument, but at least he got a (thoroughly deserved) award, eh?!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette &#8211; <i>Boyhood<\/i><\/h4>\n<p>See: Richard Linklater. <i>12 years making a movie<\/i> is enough of a feat, but putting in an amazing performance while playing a character on-and-off for that long is even more remarkable.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Best Animated Film: The Lego Movie<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fZ_JOBCLF-I\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The biggest snub of <a title=\"Who will win at the Oscars?
