In this week’s post, we’re going to help you find out who your favourite singers and bands have ripped off with WhoSampled.

What is it?

WhoSampled is a ”˜music DNA discovery’ app, which – in simple terms – means you can use it to find out which tracks an artist has sampled in a song, as well as finding cover versions and remixes. There’s over 290,000 tracks on the database, so its fairly comprehensive.

Why is it surprisingly easy?

The information WhoSampled provides is ridiculously precise, detailing the song sampled, which part was sampled, and the time at which you can find the sample. You can even stream both songs and compare them.

The best bit

You’ll become a fountain of music trivia. Did you know James Brown is the most sampled artist ever? Or that Change The Beat by Beside and Fab Five Freddy is the most sampled song ever?

It’s also handy if you hear a bit in a song (and lets face it, most songs are loaded with samples these days) and can’t figure out where it was sampled from.

The downside

You’ll realise all music is derived from about 2 or 3 songs.

Download WhoSampled on iOS | Download WhoSampled on Android

Click below for an instant price for your phone!

Every week, we bring you an app that’ll make your life easier.
