Get your tissues ready, everyone; \u00a0the PS3 and Xbox 360 are nearly dead.<\/p>\n

Two stories last week confirmed their imminent demise: Ubisoft ditching \u201d\u02dclast gen\u2019 console development<\/a>, and the lack of PS3 or 360 online features in Tony Hawk\u2019s Pro Skater 5.<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no surprise, though. The PS3 is 8 this year, while the 360 is 9. It\u2019s time to upgrade but before you do, let\u2019s take a look back at some of the best games of this generation.<\/p>\n

(Note:<\/b> we\u2019ve left out games that have either had, will have or are likely to get an HD remake, i.e. The Last of Us, Gears of War, Halo <\/i>or Uncharted.<\/i>)<\/p>\n

\n

\"Arkham<\/a><\/b><\/h4>\n

Batman: Arkham City<\/b><\/h3>\n

Everyone wants to be Batman, even people who deny it. However, building hi-tech gadgets and fighting criminal masterminds isn\u2019t practical for the average 9 to 5 worker with no martial arts training.<\/p>\n

Luckily, we have Arkham City<\/i>. It\u2019s the closest you’ll ever get to being Bruce Wayne, with incredible gadgets and a combat system that makes you feel like a kung-fu master (even though you\u2019re sitting on a sofa pressing a few buttons).<\/p>\n

\"Fallout<\/a><\/b><\/h4>\n

Fallout 3<\/b><\/h3>\n

Who knew the end of the world could be so fun? Fallout 3 <\/i>casts you as a lone survivor in a nuclear wasteland, with just a gun and the occasional nuclear weapon for company.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s basically Skyrim<\/i> with guns and radiation and it\u2019s every bit as awesome as that sounds.<\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0\"Left<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n

Left 4 Dead 2<\/b><\/h3>\n

In a sea of average zombie games, Left 4 Dead 2 <\/i>floats to the top like a brainmuncher on a lilo.<\/p>\n

The premise is simple: you, and 3 of your mates, are stranded in a zombie-infested city. Your mission is to get to an escape point by any means possible.<\/p>\n

Left 4 Dead 2 <\/i>has caused countless arguments (there\u2019s always one idiot who gets eaten straight away) but it\u2019s ridiculously fun and infinitely replayable.<\/p>\n

\n

\"Red<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n

Red Dead Redemption<\/b><\/h3>\n

Red Dead Redemption <\/i>doesn\u2019t need an introduction. It\u2019s one of the best games ever made and if you haven\u2019t played it, you need to as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

If you have played it, don\u2019t forget to check out the brilliant Undead Nightmare <\/i>expansion too.<\/p>\n

\"Bioshock\"<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n

Bioshock<\/b><\/h3>\n

For years, video games were seen as the stupid younger brother of films and TV. Bioshock <\/i>helped change that.<\/p>\n

Set in a fictional underwater utopia destroyed by drug-addicted crazies, Bioshock <\/i>explores weighty issues – morality, class and the theories of Ayn Rand being just a few.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a decent game lying behind all that intellectual pondering as well, with players using a combination of magic powers and good ol\u2019 fashioned guns to blast their way through the nasty residents of Rapture (including some delightfully charming chaps with drills for hands).<\/p>\n

\n

\"Killzone<\/a><\/b><\/h3>\n

Killzone 2<\/b><\/h3>\n

Good old Killzone 2 <\/i>is one of the best first person shooters on the PS3, even if the plot and the acting is ever-so-slightly dodgy. The series has never quite hit the heights of the 360\u2019s Halo<\/i> but it\u2019s still well worth a go if you haven\u2019t played it yet.<\/p>\n

\"Dark<\/a>Dark Souls<\/b><\/h3>\n

Ah, Dark Souls. <\/i>It\u2019s the hardest game ever made, depending on who you ask, and definitely not for everyone<\/i>.<\/p>\n

If you enjoy regular beatings at the hands of giant demons with massive swords and have the patience to figure out how to beat them, however, Dark Souls <\/i>is hugely rewarding. It\u2019s pretty too.<\/p>\n

\n

\"Oblivion\"<\/a>The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion<\/b><\/h3>\n

The gloriously nerdy Oblivion <\/i>is as in-depth and complex as RPGs come, with a difficult-to-grasp character development system and a world the size of Yorkshire to explore.<\/p>\n

While Oblivion\u2019s <\/i>sequel Skyrim <\/i>is arguably better (and a lot easier to get to grips with), Oblivion <\/i>is still worth a go if you love RPGs.<\/p>\n
