{"id":4521,"date":"2015-07-22T11:47:57","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T11:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/?p=4521"},"modified":"2016-02-29T11:38:01","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T11:38:01","slug":"10-video-games-that-should-be-remastered-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/07\/22\/10-video-games-that-should-be-remastered-next\/","title":{"rendered":"10 video games that should be remastered next"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Love \u201d\u02dcem or hate \u201d\u02dcem, video game remasters are here to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Having realised that people want nothing more than to play their favourite games with slightly nicer graphics, games companies are remastering every game under the sun. <i>Gears of War<\/i>, <i>Uncharted, Dishonored <\/i>and <i>Darksiders II <\/i>remasters are all on the way, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2015\/5\/26\/8659243\/resident-evil-0-remaster-capcom\"><i>Resident Evil Zero <\/i>remake<\/a> recently announced too.<\/p>\n<p>Until recently, most remasters focused on games from the last 2 generations. Then, Sony dropped a bombshell during their E3 conference: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2015\/06\/15\/final-fantasy-vii-remake\/\">legendary <i>Final Fantasy 7 <\/i>is being remade for the PS4<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s opened the door for pretty much any classic game to get a remake. We\u2019ve already shared a few of the games we think should be remade, but&#8230;well, there\u2019s plenty more titles we\u2019d like to see get the HD treatment too. It was pretty much <i>Mario Kart <\/i>with the characters from <i>Crash Bandicoot<\/i>, with 8 racers charging around increasingly wacky tracks while lobbing missiles and TNT at each other.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, you pretty much can\u2019t play a kart racing game unless you own a Wii U (which, statistically, most of us don\u2019t). There\u2019s a huge gap in the market, and there\u2019s only one kart racing game worthy of filling it. Sony wouldn\u2019t even need to do that much work; just make the game prettier, slap together a few new tracks and we\u2019ll be happy!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/world-cup-98.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4523\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/world-cup-98.jpg\" alt=\"World Cup 98\" width=\"480\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/world-cup-98.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/world-cup-98-293x300.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>FIFA World Cup \u201d\u02dc98<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>FIFA 15 <\/i>is the ultimate football game, but it\u2019s missing one killer feature: the ability to play as legendary players. Alright, so you can use \u201d\u02dclegends\u2019 in <i>Ultimate Team<\/i> but they cost an absolute fortune to buy and most of us will never get the opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we think EA should delve into their archives and remake perhaps the greatest football game of all time: <i>World Cup 98<\/i>. The list of players alone makes it an obvious choice: Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham (maybe leave out the kicking bit, though), Batistuta, Maldini, Bergkamp &#8211; we could spend the rest of this post listing the legends to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine how good <i>Ultimate Team<\/i> would be too! Released nearly 20 years ago, it\u2019s become a cult classic thanks to its combination of platforming, puzzles, combat and a melodramatic-but-compelling vampire plot.<\/p>\n<p>Playing as a banished vampire called Raziel, <i>Soul Reaver<\/i> sees you seeking vengeance against your former vampire friends with the help of an awesome glowing blue sword.<\/p>\n<p>However: while the gameplay is still pretty sound, the graphics haven\u2019t aged well at all. But if someone was to give it a visual makeover and give the gameplay a bit of a spruce up, we could have a hit on our hands!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/road-rash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4527\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/road-rash.jpg\" alt=\"Road Rash\" width=\"326\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/road-rash.jpg 326w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/road-rash-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Road Rash<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Motorbikes are cool, yet we can count the amount of good motorbike games we\u2019ve played on one hand.<\/p>\n<p><i>Road Rash <\/i>was definitely one of them. Set in an illegal street racing ring, the game saw you racing against rivals on a series of California roads while trying to dodge traffic, obstacles and your fellow racers trying to bash you with pipes (you could hit them with stuff too).<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each race, one of the riders would give it the big \u201d\u02dcun and tell you you\u2019re rubbish, which you responded to by kicking them off their bike in the next race at the soonest opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, why hasn\u2019t this been remade already?!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/golden-axe.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4528\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/golden-axe.png\" alt=\"Golden Axe\" width=\"256\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/golden-axe.png 256w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/golden-axe-213x300.png 213w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Golden Axe<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Back in the day, side-scrolling beat-em-ups were all the rage. <i>Streets of Rage <\/i>and<i> Double Dragon <\/i>are perhaps the most famous games in the genre, but <i>Golden Axe <\/i>is arguably the best.<\/p>\n<p>The premise is simple: you\u2019re a warrior on a quest to fight a dragon, and the only way to get to him is to chop through his minions with your sword (or axe). Along the way, you can use magic and ride mini-dragons.<\/p>\n<p>In short, it\u2019s awesome.<\/p>\n<p>An open-world 3D version would be even more awesome though. Believe it or not, Sega <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2013\/08\/check_out_sega_australias_impressive_golden_axe_remake\">actually dabbled with the idea<\/a>, but it never got past the concept stage. Pick it up again and let\u2019s make this thing happen, Sega!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/zombiesatemyneighbours.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4529\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/zombiesatemyneighbours.jpg\" alt=\"Zombies Ate My Neighbours\" width=\"640\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/zombiesatemyneighbours.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/zombiesatemyneighbours-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Zombies Ate My Neighbours<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>Zombies Ate My Neighbours, <\/i>which was released in 1994 for the SNES and Mega Drive<i>, <\/i>is a bona-fide cult classic and a constant fixture on \u201d\u02dcthe most underrated games of all time\u2019 lists.<\/p>\n<p>As the title suggests, zombies have attacked your neighbourhood and it&#8217;s your job to save your fellow residents. Unlike most modern zombie games, though, <i>Zombies Ate My Neighbours<\/i> has it\u2019s tongue stuck firmly in its cheek: it has endless B-movie references and bosses include evil dolls, giant ants and a giant baby.<\/p>\n<p>There hasn\u2019t been much talk of a remake, so this one is unlikely to happen (although a film based on game was briefly in the news a couple of years ago). But we\u2019ll keep our fingers crossed anyway.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/die-hard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4531\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/die-hard.jpg\" alt=\"Die Hard\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/die-hard.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/die-hard-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/die-hard-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Die Hard Trilogy<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Games based on movies are generally terrible, but there are a few notable exceptions. <i>Die Hard Trilogy <\/i>is one of them, giving you not one, but <i>three<\/i> games in one.<\/p>\n<p>Each game is based on one of the <i>Die Hard <\/i>movies: <i>Die Hard<\/i> is a third-person shooter, <i>Die Hard 2 <\/i>is a light-gun arcade shooter while <i>Die Hard With A Vengeance <\/i>is a driving game. While <i>Die Hard <\/i>was the strongest by far, the other games were great too.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, <i>Die Hard <\/i>isn\u2019t a trilogy anymore so whoever remakes this classic would have to dream up 2 other games as well. We reckon a helicopter wrestling sim for <i>Die Hard 4.0 <\/i>and a puzzler for <i>A Good Day to Die Hard. <\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/smash-tv.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4532\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/smash-tv.jpg\" alt=\"Smash TV\" width=\"640\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/smash-tv.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/smash-tv-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Super Smash TV<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>Smash TV <\/i>is possibly the simplest game ever made, but it\u2019s also one of the best. As the star of a futuristic TV show, your job is to shoot as many enemies as possible to get your hands on lovely cash prizes. And that\u2019s literally it. Shoot stuff, get prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The only hurdle we can foresee in remaking this one is the temptation to make <i>Smash TV \u201d\u02dc<\/i>gritty\u2019. Keep it fun and silly and this will probably outsell <i>Call of Duty <\/i>and <i>Grand Theft Auto <\/i>combined.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/power-stone-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4533\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/power-stone-2.jpg\" alt=\"Power Stone 2\" width=\"483\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/power-stone-2.jpg 483w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/power-stone-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/power-stone-2-300x298.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Power Stone<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>Power Stone <\/i>is one of the greatest fighting games ever made, but most people haven\u2019t played it. Why? It was released on the Dreamcast, the best console that no-one bothered to buy. It\u2019s a shame, because this arena beat-em-up was original, manic and ridiculously entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike a lot of classic Dreamcast games, <i>Power Stone <\/i>has never been re-released for the PlayStation or Xbox. It\u2019s strange, because the game is practically made for online gaming!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vice-city.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4534\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vice-city.jpg\" alt=\"Vice City\" width=\"317\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vice-city.jpg 317w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vice-city-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 317px) 100vw, 317px\" \/><\/a><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Grand Theft Auto: Vice City<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>We don\u2019t need to justify this.
