Sure, it’s great for a token gesture when you can’t be bothered to comment, but you can only really use it if the post is a positive one.

Well, that could be about to change. According to a report by Engadget ES (the report is in Spanish), Facebook will be testing a brand new set of emoticon reactions that will sit alongside the Like button. That means, in addition to hitting ”˜Like’, you’ll also be able to respond with a smiley face, an angry face, a shocked face, a love heart and what looks like a crying face (but might be a sweaty face). Notably, there still isn’t a dislike button.

Of course, you’re already able to post these emoticons in a comment but it’s one less button to press, we suppose. Plus, the new feature may tally up the amount of emoticons your friends have clicked in a similar way to likes, so you can see exactly how many people you’ve annoyed with your latest holiday picture.

According to Engadget, the feature could roll out in Ireland and Spain as early as tomorrow. There doesn’t seem to be any plans to roll it out any further for the time being, but we imagine that emoticon reactions will hit the UK if they’re a success in those two countries.

How does this news make you feel? Get used to the changes by responding with a smiley face, angry face, shocked face, etc, etc and so on.

For years, Facebook users have complained about the limited emotional expression of the ”˜Like’ button.
