Here are some of 2015\u2019s most overlooked films to date \u201d\u201c check them out!<\/p>\n<p>(We\u2019re focusing on \u201d\u02dcbig\u2019 movies for the sake of this post; share your indie and arthouse recommendations in the comments!)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lNzukD8pS_s\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tomorrowland<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Tomorrowland <\/em>should have been one of the biggest films of the year, but it sadly got eclipsed by a packed release schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The film sees jaded ex-boy genius Frank (played by George Clooney) who seeks to discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Tomorrowland. Assisting him is teenage science buff Casey, who stumbles on his secret laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Brad Bird, the guy behind <em>The Incredibles <\/em>and <em>Mission Impossible<\/em>, <em>Tomorrowland <\/em>isn\u2019t quite as exciting or compelling as his other work (as reflected in the reviews), but it\u2019s a great family blockbuster with an inspiring message and a surprisingly adult take on some of humanity\u2019s biggest issues.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qng3t9RZk6Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mr Holmes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We know what you\u2019re thinking: another flipping Sherlock Holmes movie!<\/p>\n<p>Well, this one is slightly different. Rather than focusing on the eccentric detective\u2019s adventures at the height of his sleuthing, <em>Mr Holmes<\/em> sees a retired Sherlock looking after bees with just his housekeeper and her son for company. Eventually, Sherlock and the boy start reworking on the case that sent him into retirement.<\/p>\n<p>Ian McKellen is a great Holmes, capturing the sadness and loneliness of Holmes\u2019 later years \u201d\u201cand the renewed vigour visiting his old occupation gives him.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o87gG7ZlEAg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Most Violent Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Gangster dramas are ten-a-penny these days, but this one from J.C Chandor is definitely worth watching. Oscar Isaac stars as an immigrant trying to earn his fortune in New York City, only to get slowly sucked into a world of greed, intimidation and violence. Jessica Chastain plays his wife.<\/p>\n<p><em>A Most Violent Year <\/em>didn\u2019t bring in huge box office receipts but we reckon it\u2019ll become a cult favourite over the next decade or so.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/96Itg4gjtts\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>It Follows<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Great horror films have been few and far between recently, but <em>It Follows <\/em>is definitely one of them. At its heart, <em>It Follows <\/em>is basically a slasher flick with a teenager stalked by a seemingly unstoppable killer. But there\u2019s a huge twist: the \u201d\u02dcstalker\u2019 is actually a curse passed on through sexual intercourse. Blimey!<\/p>\n<p>Unlike many contemporary horrors, <em>It Follows<\/em> is slow-paced and lingering, creating an almost unbearable sense of dread. An absolute essential for your Halloween horror marathon.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pFfsTsdJfF8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slow West<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Westerns are coming back in a big way, thanks in no small part to <em>Django Unchained <\/em>and Quentin Tarantino (whose latest Western, <em>The Hateful Eight<\/em>, comes out next year).<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to wait for that, though. <em>Slow West <\/em>is a fantastic old-school gritty Western in which a young man travels across America to find the woman he loves. With him is a mysterious traveller played by Michael Fassbender, and \u201d\u201c because this is a Western \u201d\u201c they\u2019re being pursued by a gang of outlaws.<\/p>\n<p>Although the title suggests a slow-burner, <em>Slow West <\/em>is actually fairly fast-paced and has plenty of moments of tension and twists. A Western for the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century, then.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S3AVcCggRnU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ted 2 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We thought it was just us who forgot this came out, but <em>Ted 2\u2019s <\/em>box office performance suggests quite a lot of other people forgot about it too. This time, Ted is married and wants a kid. Unfortunately, he\u2019ll have to prove he\u2019s a person in court first, so he enlists the help of his best pal and Thunderbuddy Mark Wahlberg.<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, if you\u2019ve seen the first film, you\u2019ll know what to expect here. It\u2019s every bit as immature and silly as the first, but that\u2019s why we love it.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AQ5Vz8qE8R8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Maggie<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Now, here\u2019s a novelty: an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie without any explosions, fighting or one liners!<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Arnie plays the father of a young girl who is slowly turning into a zombie, giving him a rare chance to flex his acting muscles.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s low-key and melancholy, but fans of <em>The Walking Dead<\/em> will love it. And Arnie is a surprisingly good actor!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mh2ebPxhoLs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Southpaw<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Jake Gyllenhaal is nearly unrecognisable as a battle-scarred boxer in this drama directed by Antoine Fuqua of <em>Training Day<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Gyllenhaal\u2019s character Billy Hope\u2019s successful career takes a turn for the worse after a tragedy and he\u2019s forced to fight his way back to the top. It\u2019s basically a grittier version of <em>Rocky<\/em> and the story is fairly obvious, but Gyllenhaal is so good that you won\u2019t really care. It\u2019s much more entertaining than the rubbish Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight too.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <em>Southpaw <\/em>was originally an Eminem biopic in the form of a boxing movie, and many of the events parallel recent life. He doesn\u2019t appear in the movie, although there is a training montage set to his music.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Want to refresh your movie collection?
