Here’s Lark, a health app that should help you stay on top of your Christmas indulgence and shift a few pounds in the New Year.

What is it?

Lark is a health app that tracks your eating, exercise habits and sleep patterns to try and make you a bit healthier.

Unlike other health apps, though, Lark takes the form of a personal assistant. Imagine a more health-conscious version of Siri and you’re more or less there.

Every day, you let Lark know what you ate while it tracks how much exercise you got and how well you slept using the sensors in your phone. Based on this, Lark will send you feedback in the form of text-like messages written as if they were from a real person. And they kind of are: the app draws on a database of expertise created by health experts at Stanford and Harvard university, as well as sports coaches and nutritionists.

Why is it surprisingly easy?

Lark is far more than a few automated texts written in the style of a real person. It provides motivation, gives advice on diet and exercise and even occasionally gives you a little telling off for eating too many burgers (but a nice telling off).

You can also set goals, which Lark will help you towards with its life-like motivational talk and all manner of easy-to-understand graphs that chart your progress and help you keep on top of things.

It’s also compatible with the Apple Watch.

The best bit

Apparently, chatting with Lark for a few minutes day is proven to improve healthy habits by 23%. While we’re not quite sure how to measure that on a personal level, it definitely beats having to contend with loads of graphs just to figure out how much more exercise you should be doing.

Download Lark on iTunes | Download Lark on Google Play

If you need some fast extra cash this Christmas, give our own surprisingly easy app a try.
