If you’re struggling, here a few easy tips to get a little better. They won’t make you a better player, but they might help you have more fun!

Find your best loadout

Getting the right build out will help your game immensely, but it takes some experimentation. Try different guns and attachments and figure out what works best for your playstyle.

Change your controller

It sounds like a rubbish excuse, but your controller could be holding you back.

If you’re playing on the Xbox One, your best option is the Elite controller. As well as a premium metal build and modular options, the Elite has paddles behind the grips that can replace the triggers at the top. As a result, you can tap the triggers to fire and react quicker.

The downside? It costs £120. Best get selling games so you can save up.

If you’re looking for a cheaper option, KontrolFreek analog sticks (which make your sticks slightly taller and grippier) give you greater control and accuracy.

Be a team player

In a real warzone, sprinting off and trying to take everyone down on your own wouldn’t end well.

It doesn’t usually end well in Call of Duty either. You can occasionally get away with it in deathmatch, but it’s a terrible idea in objective-based game modes.

Stick with your teammates and roll up on enemies together. That means you might have to talk to people on the mic like normal people, but hey, who knows, you might make a friend.

Learn the maps

Imagine how good you’d be at Call of Duty if every game took place on a map of your house. You’d know all the choke points, all the sniping spots, all the hidden passages.

Sadly, that’s literally never going to happen so you’ll have to learn the maps in-game instead. Take some time to run around, taking note of any choke points, corners, sniping spots, places people camp and so on.

Over time, you’ll know the maps so well that they’ll feel like your own personal world…of PAIN.

Stay cool

It’s easy to start screaming and hollering when things aren’t going your way but, as a wise little goblin from a far away planet once said, ”˜anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering’.

So, keep cool and approach the game rationally. If you keep getting killed, figure out why and work out how to reverse it.

It also helps to develop a thick skin so you don’t get wound up by a 13 year old screaming abuse about your nether-regions.

Practise, practise, practise

No-one becomes a killing machine after playing Call of Duty for the first time. Even the best players started somewhere, and that was usually getting shot by people better than them until they improved.

The more time you put into the game, the better you’ll get. It doesn’t matter if you suck at first: just keep on playing and learning from your mistakes. You’ll be a much better player for it.

Don’t take it too seriously

Above everything else, remember it’s only a game. As long as you’re enjoying yourself, it’s all good.

Ready to take to the battlefield? Check out Call of Duty titles at amazing prices on the musicMagpie Store!

Call of Duty is one of the biggest entertainment franchises ever, making over £6 billion worldwide since 2003.
