But who has starred in the better movies over the years?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve taken 6 Supes and 6 Bats films, worked out an average score based on critic and audience reviews and pitted them against each other. Here are the results!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gz_hbAXqWXg\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#12: Superman IV: The Quest for Peace<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 17<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 26.6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 21.8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At rock bottom, it\u2019s <em>The Quest for Peace<\/em>. It\u2019s goofy, stupid and a sad end for Christopher Reeve, who is still the ultimate Superman. You know it\u2019s bad when it scores <em>less than Batman &amp; Robin. <\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4RBXypX4qWI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#11: Batman &amp; Robin<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 19.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 36.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 28<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here it is: the worst Batman movie by a country mile. Not even Arnie and George Clooney could save this one from being crushed under bat nipples, ice puns and (we\u2019re not making this up) a Bat credit card.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hPc1vMX9KlI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#10: Superman III<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 39<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 31<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 35<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Superman goes comedic as Superman gets corrupted by spiked kryptonite, becomes massively depressed and becomes an alcoholic. Meanwhile, Richard Pryor helps concoct a scheme to take over the world. It sounds a lot better than it is.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/suOgRZflPtk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#9: Batman Forever<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 46<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 49.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 47.7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the gothic gloom of Burton\u2019s <em>Batman<\/em>, Joel Schumacher decided to make Gotham ultra day-glo and cast Jim Carrey as the main villain. It\u2019s pretty good, until you realise it\u2019s a foreshadowing of <em>Batman &amp; Robin<\/em>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T6DJcgm3wNY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#8: Man of Steel<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 55.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 74.3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 64.9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Zack Snyder\u2019s destruction fest divided the critics, although audiences seem to like it a lot more. It\u2019s a little long but the end sequence makes it worth it.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bRqAUqAFhNw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#7: Superman Returns<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 74<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 62<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 68<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, the forgotten film in the <em>Superman <\/em>series is rates higher than <em>Man of Steel<\/em>. It\u2019s a lot more cheerful than Snyder\u2019s film, and Brandon Routh is a decent Superman too.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Too3qgNaYBE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#6: Batman Returns<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 80<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 71.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 75.7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tim Burton\u2019s gothic classic is captures the mood of the comics perfectly, transforming Gotham into a surreal nightmare-ish city of horrors. Plus, it has penguins with rockets on their backs.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jxD8RlGnP64\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>#5: Superman II<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 88<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 69<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 78.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two villains are better than one, which might explain why the critics loved <em>Superman<\/em> <em>II. <\/em>This time, he\u2019s taking on the dual threat of Lex Luthor <em>and <\/em>General Zod.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iw_CphigcOo\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#4: Batman Begins <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 77.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 87.6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 82.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the glam nonsense of <em>Batman &amp; Robin<\/em>, Batman went back to doing what he does best: dark and serious. No film has done the Batman origin story better before or since.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GokKUqLcvD8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#3: The Dark Knight Rises<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 82.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 86<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 84.2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The final part of Nolan\u2019s <em>Dark Knight <\/em>trilogy is positively insane compared to the previous two, with a plot involving nuclear weapons and the politest masked villain taking over Gotham entirely. It\u2019s still great though.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XWHyvubVdPA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#2: Superman <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 89.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 79.6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 84.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it\u2019s a little bit cheesy compared to modern superhero movies but <em>Superman <\/em>more than makes up for it in fun. It\u2019s an obvious inspiration for the Marvel movies too.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_PZpmTj1Q8Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>#1: The Dark Knight<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Critics: 88<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience: 91<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall: 89.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our previous post found that this was the greatest superhero movie of all time, so it\u2019s no surprise its top of this list too. It takes the basic superhero structure and builds a twisting tale of morality around it. Heath Ledger steals the show as the Joker too, becoming one of the only actors to win an Oscar for a role in a superhero film.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>So, who wins overall?
