Some bloke called The Joker (Jared Leto) crops up too.<\/p>\n<p>It promises to be one of the most original superhero movies in years. If the excitement is getting too much for you, here are a few movies to fuel your hype (or watch afterwards!)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o7WTF9ficFIvvRyeI\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" frameBorder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/batmanvsuperman-batman-superman-v-3o7WTF9ficFIvvRyeI\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The obvious choice, seeing as Batfleck makes a cameo in <em>Suicide Squad. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>As the title suggests, <em>BvS <\/em>sees DC\u2019s big boys go one-on-one, with Batman convinced Superman is a threat to humanity. Pulling the strings is Lex Luthor, reinvented as a quirky tech billionaire who always seems on the verge of a maniacal laugh.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all about Bruce and Clark, though. <em>Dawn of Justice <\/em>also introduces us to the Justice League, with Wonder Woman jumping in to steal the show from Bats and Supes.<\/p>\n<p><em>BvS <\/em>got mixed responses earlier this year but it\u2019s honestly nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews suggest. In fact, the extended edition included on the Blu-Ray improves many of the film\u2019s faults.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/affleckbenbatmanvsup\">Buy Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice on DVD<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/affleckbenbatmanvsup-1d9de917-054d-4b91-aa70-b57858472ca1\">Buy Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice on Blu-Ray<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>The Dark Knight<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/wxN1sr7vSwmRi\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" frameBorder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/the-dark-knight-heath-ledger-wxN1sr7vSwmRi\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Suicide Squad <\/em>is the Joker\u2019s first big screen appearance since Heath Ledger\u2019s Oscar winning turn in <em>The Dark Knight<\/em>, so it seems like a good time to revisit the greatest portrayal of the greatest comic book villain of them all.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s probably unfair to compare whatever Jared Leto does with the character (apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/screencrush.com\/leto-joker-suicide-squad-drug-lords-instagram-yeah-ok\/\">he was inspired by Instagram thugs with face tattoos<\/a>) to Heath Ledger\u2019s agent of chaos. But then again, <em>The Dark Knight <\/em>is so good that we\u2019ll take any excuse to re-watch it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/the-dark-knight-2-discs-dvd-2008\">Buy The Dark Knight on DVD<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/the-dark-knight-2-discs-blu-ray\">Buy The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Watchmen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/YZGTSKJd7hixO\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" frameBorder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/watchmen-thriller-super-heroes-YZGTSKJd7hixO\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before <em>Suicide Squad <\/em>was a twinkle in his eye, Zack Synder took on another group of superfolk with questionable morals \u201d\u201c <em>Watchmen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Although they\u2019re a squad of superheroes, the characters of <em>Watchmen <\/em>are far from good. In fact, at least three of them would be supervillains in pretty much any other comic book.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s no surprise considering Alan Moore, the author of <em>Watchmen<\/em>, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2013\/nov\/22\/alan-moore-comic-books-interview\">no fan of superheroes<\/a> (or adaptations of his work, for that matter). <em>Watchmen<\/em> tears down the myth behind the men and women who save the world, showing that they\u2019re as damaged and complex as the rest of us. Well, the ones who don\u2019t glow blue and have complete control over the universe, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Synder\u2019s adaptation of <em>Watchmen <\/em>is faithful to the comics \u201d\u201c apart from one big change. Ironically, <em>Watchmen\u2019s <\/em>success led to him landing the DC Comics gig and even more superhero movies. There are a lot of similarities, to be fair: the diverse and weird cast of characters, the jokes and witty banter, the cracking soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <em>Suicide Squad\u2019s <\/em>earthbound antics, though, <em>Guardians of the Galaxy <\/em>is a space opera in the vein of <em>Star Trek <\/em>or <em>Farscape<\/em>. In fact, it\u2019s not much of a superhero movie at all \u201d\u201c but it\u2019s still hugely entertaining.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/guardians-of-the-galaxy\">Buy Guardians of the Galaxy on DVD<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/store.musicmagpie.co.uk\/products\/guardians-of-the-galaxy-blu-ray-blu-ray\">Buy Guardians of the Galaxy on Blu-Ray<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Hancock<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SkX1VuXLRSc\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Suicide Squad <\/em>isn\u2019t Will Smith\u2019s first superhero rodeo. That honour belongs to <em>Hancock<\/em>, in which Big Willy plays a reluctant scruffy superhero who discovers a fellow superbeing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hancock <\/em>did huge business at the box office but it isn\u2019t often mentioned when it comes to good superhero movies.
