And then there&#8217;s the artwork.<\/p>\n<p>Buying vinyl allows music lovers to fully appreciate the intricacies and detail of album covers, which were slightly neglected during the iTunes era. It also allows artists to experiment with different packaging, leading to all kinds of weird and wonderful vinyl sets over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>Here are my favourite vinyl covers of the past 5 years. Bloom &#8211; Beach House<\/h3>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bloom.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7035\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bloom.jpeg\" alt=\"Beach House - Bloom\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bloom.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bloom-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bloom-300x300.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Legrand and Scally of alternative band Beach House design all of their album artwork themselves, but have been praised most highly for these limited edition vinyl copies of their 2012 album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloom<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cover is simple but pleasing and much more detailed than it first appears. The contrast of black and white is made even more impactful by the lights in the image, which glow in the dark.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">10. Syro &#8211; Aphex Twin<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/syro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7036\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/syro.jpg\" alt=\"Syro - Aphex Twin\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/syro.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/syro-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/syro-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cover art for Aphex Twin\u2019s 2014 album doesn\u2019t look like much at first, but it&#8217;s actually a list of the bills for the album\u2019s production and promotion: \u201cfrom courier charges to photoshoot expenses, expressed per disc and tailored for both vinyl and CD versions.\u201d\u009d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time, it was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">accompanied by a bizarre press release that promoted the &#8220;Triple vinyl, CD and digital formats\u201d\u00a6Bleep a very limited vinyl version you can register your interest in buying.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/syro-f58fb6fe-d5f3-4dd6-bf6b-f8d3b6562b9f\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>Syro\u00a0<\/em>by Aphex Twin on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">9. Gloss Drop &#8211; Battles<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/battles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7038\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.3.178\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/battles.jpg\" alt=\"Gloss Drop - Battles\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/battles.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/battles-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/battles-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an interview with NME, Battles\u2019 bassist Dave Konokpa described this cover art as \u201ca big blob of nothing,\u201d\u009d However, he went on to explain the thought process and chemistry behind producing the colourful madness: \u201cI wanted to represent a solid document that would be the album, that is a controlled atmosphere and have something that is completely organic that you can\u2019t even control the way things are going to happen.\u201d\u009d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Featuring this vinyl art on the list is cheating a little bit, as the original album was actually released in 2011. But, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from February to April 2012, Battles released a series of four <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12&#8243; vinyl<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> versions titled <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dross Glop<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em> 1 through 4<\/em>, with variations of this same artwork.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/battlesglossdrop\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>Gloss Drop\u00a0<\/em>by Battles on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">8. For example, if you hold the vinyl art to a bright light, it reveals the impression of a galaxy befitting of the \u201d\u02dcStarman\u2019 and his legacy. Barnbrook even confessed to BBC Radio 6 that there\u2019s \u201cone big thing which people haven\u2019t discovered yet\u201d\u00a6 Let\u2019s just say, if people find it, they find it, and if they don\u2019t, they don\u2019t\u201d\u009d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/blackstar-e1a295fe-fe8f-4921-9e67-48b019b079ab\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>Blackstar\u00a0<\/em>by David Bowie on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">7. It features the legendary Tina Turner shot in New York, 1969, by Vogue photographer Jack Robinson. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about this bold and iconic photo, Cooper explained that: \u201cThe idea was to move the artwork on from the 60s feel of the first The Last Shadow Puppets album artwork, so here is Tina on the very cusp of the 1970s. And so, could this gorgeous gothic shot of several nearly identical girls imply Kath\u2019s feeling that Alice was easy to replace?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/crystalcasamnestyi-e48e0a36-4940-4961-a8e3-e01893940f4f\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>Amnesty (I)\u00a0<\/em>by Crystal Castles on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">5. The band have stayed pretty under-the-radar, but their sound is often compared to the likes of M83 and LCD Soundsystem. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The thought process behind this ambiguous artwork has never been explained by the musicians, but it is undeniably aesthetically pleasing. The artwork isn&#8217;t as grotesque as the rest of his work, but the dark characters still hit you with a deep menacing feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The drawing was in fact based on a publicity still for the 1931 film Dracula, and was designed to convey the overwhelming process of making music. When asked about the design, Boneface explained that \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the title of the album; \u201d\u00a6Like Clockwork is ironic, as the recording of the album went anything but, so the idea behind the artwork is an extension of this\u201d\u009d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/queensofthlikeclockw\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>&#8230;Like Clockwork<\/em> by Queens of the Stone Age on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">3. This beautifully mirrors the distorted \u00a0and \u201d\u02dcunnatural\u2019 elements in her music, that defies any convention of genre. Some argue that it represents a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">concept in physics called \u201camplitude modulation\u201d\u009d (AM) mainly used in radio broadcasting, as the waves produced carry sound. Others believe that it is the visualisation of a pulse-line to mimic the thick bass line that underpins much of the album. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmagpie.co.uk\/store\/products\/arcticmonkam\"><strong>Buy\u00a0<em>AM\u00a0<\/em>by Arctic Monkeys on the musicMagpie Store<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">1.
