One thing is for certain \u201d\u201c the decade produced some absolute classic films. We have a list of the highest-grossing films of the 90s; enjoy the nostalgia!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kg_jH47u480\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Armageddon<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3397,463,077<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The highest-grossing film of 1998 was Michael Bay\u2019s classic <em>Armageddon<\/em>; if you haven\u2019t seen the film, you\u2019ll definitely know Aerosmith\u2019s track from the film, <em>I Don\u2019t Wanna Miss a Thing<\/em>. Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Ben Affleck star in the blockbuster, which focuses on a team who fight to stop an asteroid destroying the earth. The reviews may not have been entirely favourable but the box office numbers speak for themselves.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HYUd7AOw_lk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Men in Black<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3423,075,377<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just one of many huge flicks starting Will Smith \u201d\u201c and just one that featured a title song by the man himself \u201d\u201c <em>Men in Black<\/em> was the third highest-grossing film of 1997. Smith played Agent J, alongside Tommy Lee Jones\u2019s Agent K \u201d\u201c government agents investigating and controlling alien lifeforms on earth. They uncover a plot that could be deadly, but of course, the Men in Black save the day.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RxrvaneULkE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>The Lost World: Jurassic Park<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3444,070,460<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second film of the franchise, <em>The Lost World: Jurassic Park<\/em> hit the big screen in 1997. Only one of the original characters returns; Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm but luckily Steven Spielberg came back to direct. Set four years after the original events, there is another island of dinosaurs who have been free and pose a huge danger.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VG9AGf66tXM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>The Sixth Sense<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3482,952,740<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You all know the key line \u201d\u201c \u201cI see dead people.\u201d\u009d. M. Night Shyamalan\u2019s thriller focused on Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) who is a child psychologist, and his patient Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who can see the dead amongst the living. It reminds Crowe of a previous case where he\u2019d let a child down and felt the need to resolve the issue. Sear learns to live with the dead and in true Shyamalan fashion, there\u2019s a twist at the end!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bLvqoHBptjg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Forrest Gump<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3479,063,186<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There aren\u2019t many film characters the world fell so hard for as Forrest Gump. The 1994 film, with Tom Hanks portraying Forrest, was the highest-grossing film of the year; it\u2019s a heartfelt tale of a simple man from Alabama. We see how his life has touched so many different aspects of history and popular culture; and how he\u2019s still in love with Jenny, who he meets as a child, well into adulthood. It would go on to bag Best Picture at the Oscars.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ie72bX3gas0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>The Lion King<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3562,656,054<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earmarked as one of the best Disney films ever made, 1994\u2019s <em>The Lion King<\/em> is the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all-time. The story is set in the Pride Lands of Africa \u201d\u201c lion Mufasa rules over them, and his son Simba will too. But, Mufasa\u2019s brother Scar wants to rule and plans to get rid of his brother and nephew. We unfortunately lose Mufasa along the way but balance is restored when Simba returns as ruler. Not only a great story line, but the best soundtrack imaginable.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B1E7h3SeMDk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Independence Day<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3586,745,405<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The two biggest names of the 1990s \u201d\u201c Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum \u201d\u201c join forces in 1996\u2019s <em>Independence Day<\/em>. It\u2019s considered to be significant in the history of what we know to be the Hollywood blockbuster, with huge marketing campaigns behind it. Alien lifeforms threaten humanity and an unlikely group comes together in order to save the earth. They manage to do so on July 4<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QWBKEmWWL38\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Jurassic Park<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3656,582,121<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What grew to be a massive franchise began with <em>Jurassic Park<\/em> in 1993. The rights to the film were secured before the novel it was based on was even published! A theme park of cloned dinosaurs exists on an island near Costa Rica, but after one of the employees there is killed, the safety of the park must be determined. The film was iconic for the development of computer-generated images (and for scaring the life out of every child in the 1990s), and it went on to scoop more than 20 awards. Unsurprisingly, one of the awards was Best Visual Effects at the Oscars.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bD7bpG-zDJQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a3663,492,156<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The beginning of the <em>Star Wars<\/em> saga actually came more than 30 years after the first film was released. The <em>Star Wars<\/em> following was, and still very much is, huge so it\u2019s no shock that so many people flocked for Episode I and made it the highest-grossing film of 1999. Jedi Master Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan Kenobi are assigned to settle issues on the planet Naboo and are forced to evacuate it. It wouldn\u2019t be a <em>Star Wars<\/em> film without a stellar cast; <em>The Phantom Menace<\/em> included Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zCy5WQ9S4c0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Titanic<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Box office: \u00a31,323,083,797<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a predictable end to our list! James Cameron\u2019s <em>Titanic<\/em> was, very easily, the biggest movie of the 1990s. Cameron and his team had a massive budget of more than $200 million \u201d\u201c and look how it paid off. Rose and Jack are played by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, who\u2019s friendship looks beyond the social norms of their differing classes. They stick together when the Titanic crashes and sinks; but if only there were room for two on the debris Rose floats on\u201d\u00a6<\/p>\n<p>Now you\u2019ve been reminded of how great the 90s were, why not relive them!
