Protect the planet by recycling your electricals

We’re 100% committed to the battle against e-waste. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Recycle Your Electricals, a campaign making it easier for everyone to recycle unwanted electricals, to help you recycle anything you can’t sell with us.

There are over 6,500 UK drop-off points where anything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled. That includes coffee machines, kettles, TVs, fridges, vacuum cleaners, hairdryers and much, much more (take a look at the full list here).

Why is it so important to recycle your electronics?

First and foremost, throwing away your electronics is terrible for the planet - it pollutes air, land and sea with all kinds of nasty chemicals and emissions.

Sadly, e-waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world and shows no sign of slowing down, with the UN predicting the current rate of production to more than double by 2050.

In the UK, Recycle Your Electricals estimate that:

Phone being thrown into a bin

155,000 tonnes of electricals are thrown away every year

Three bars of gold stacked atop one another

The UK economy loses £370 million per year of valuable raw materials like gold, copper, aluminium and steel.

CO2 emissions from the exhaust of a car

Recycling all old electricals would cut as much CO2 as taking 1.3 million cars off the road.

How to recycle your electronics

  1. Remove any bulbs or batteries from your unwanted electricals. Make sure to delete any personal data and remove data storage accessories like memory cards too.
  2. Find a suitable bag, box or container to hold your electricals.
  3. Use the locator to find your nearest recycling point and drop your electricals off.

Your electricals will then go to a reprocessing planet where they are sorted and broken apart by hand. Materials are shredded, then magnets and electrical currents are used to separate metals. Plastic is sorted into different types and ground up. The recovered materials are then sold on the open market and can go on to become useful new products!
