Merle Sowman is the co-director of the Environmental Evaluation Unit at the University of Cape Town. She holds a doctorate in Environmental Science and specialises in the field of Integrated Coastal Management. Her involvement in the Subsistence Fisheries Task Group in South Africa, as well as various collaborative research activities in the co-management arena, prompted her involvement in this book.
