Dirk Bogarde and Margaret Lockwood star in this classic 1950s crime thriller directed by Lewis Gilbert. Edward Bare (Bogarde) is a charming gentleman who preys on wealthy women. After the not-so-mysterious death of his elderly wife Monica (Mona Washbourne), Edward discovers, much to his dispair, that her fortune has been bequeathed to her loving sister. On the hunt for a new wife, Edward meets barkeeper Freda (Lockwood) and matron Charlotte (Kay Walsh), who find out what he has been up to and threaten to expose him.
