Between the Batman Arkham games and the Insomniac Spider-Man title from 2018, the days of generic, throwaway superhero games are long behind us. If you're going to make a game based on highest-grossing superhero franchise of all time, then, you'd better make it epic. Fortunately, Crystal Dynamics knows a thing or two about epic.
The game begins with A-Day, when a terrorist attack devastates San Francisco and releases a cloud of Terrigen Mist to sweep across the world and create countless new superhumans. The Avengers are blamed, Captain America is seemingly killed and the age of the superhero is effectively over. Flash forward five years and the terrorist organisation A.I.M. controls San Francisco and an new threat is rising. Rookie hero Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel, isn't about to let this go, however. She sets about reuniting the Avengers, and an epic (yes, epic) adventure ensues.
The game takes the form of a third-person action adventure, with each Avenger (Ms Marvel, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Cap are the core cast) bringing their own awesome abilities to the table. While there's a hefty single-player mode jam-packed with action on offer, however, there's also a massive co-op mode in the model of Destiny for players to sink their teeth into. This is a big, big game with lots for Marvel fans to sink their teeth into, including tons of upgrades and plenty more characters available in this PS5 version. Marvel's Avengers promises to be a blockbuster!
