The new(ish) hit TV series Dragon Ball Super and the much-loved film Broly Movie have given the Dragon Ball series a fresh lease of life over the last few years. Gamers have been given their fair share of action with the likes of the Budokai titles and the excellent FighterZ series, but now Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 are moving a little away from the beat-'em-up genre in favour of an epic action RPG.

The game follows Goku, aka the titular Kakarot, through a large part of his life as canonised in the original manga and anime. Players can relive key moments from his life, as well as a few that have been created specifically for this game. It's a tour de force for fans - the game is chock full of recognisable locations such as Kame House to explore, and while Goku is the star of the show there are also playable roles for the likes of Piccolo, Vegeta and Gohan.

While the framework of the game is exploration, leveling up your character, chatting with locals and completing quests, there's still a hefty dose of combat. When you get into a scrap the game shifts perspective to give you an experience a lot like that of a 3D fighting game, albeit with massively powered up moves like the Kamehameha or Special Beam Cannon thrown into the mix.

What Dragon Ball fan could resist an opportunity to play out the series's most iconic moments while belting baddies around the screen? It's going to be a treat.
