Father Damien - Glynn MacNiven-Johnston

Aged 33, Fr Damien de Veuster left his mission parish to work among the lepers of Hawaii. He died there of leprosy aged only 49. Like Christ himself, he became rejected for the rejected, a leper for the lepers: something rare in a world that wants to eliminate suffering. St Damien of Molokai was canonised by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009.

Glynn MacNiven-Johnston studied Theology and taught English in various Muslim countries for many years. She has worked in Catholic publishing for over a decade and has authored a number of popular CTS booklets. She has written biographies of other saints for CTS, such as Maria Goretti and Martin De Porres.
