Here's what you say about us...

Jonathan Sperber is Curators' Professor of History at the University of Missouri. He is the author of five books and co-editor of Europe in 1848: Revolution and Reform (Berghahn Publishers, 2001).

This small edited volume presents a wealth of information about a period often superficially treated in German history. Many important scholars contribute their expertise on German society, politics, economic structures, and culture between 1800 and 1870. This book moves beyond traditional treatment of the era as simply an evitable march to German unity and offers a broader understanding of these fascinating decades.
