Bereavement is commonly perceived as a negative event with unpleasant or harmful consequences. Women and their families suffer when the care they receive is inadequate. Midwives suffer when they are unable or do not know how to provide adequate care. All too frequently midwives recognize when things do go wrong but do not know why. This book considers the ways in which the midwife can recognize and assist the mother and family to embark on a healthy grieving process and covers topics such as miscarriage, termination, perinatal and neonatal loss.
