Everyone loves Bernard, especially his aunts Lula, Lola, Lilly and Talulah. Whenever they visit, they cover Bernard in kisses from head to toe - squeaky-sweet-hello kisses, sneaky-on-the-nose kisses - and lots of others too. Bernard loves his aunts but he does NOT like the kisses. "No more kisses!" says Bernard, and he means it. So the aunts come up with a great alternative. They all draw kisses and cut out frilly paper hearts to go with them. Bernard shares his rainbow paper, felt-tip pens and fancy scissors - and everyone is happy. But at the end of the day, tucked up in bed, will Bernard give his Mom and Dad a good-night, sleep-tight kiss? A funny and charming picture book from a master of the genre, with lots of boy - and girl - appeal.

Here's what you say about us...

Niki Daly has won many awards for his exuberant work. His groundbreaking Not So fast Songololo (1986), winner of a U.S Parent's Choice Award, paved the way for post-apartheid South African children's books. Since then, he has been published across the globe and has visited and presented talks in several countries. Among his many Frances Lincoln books, Once Upon a Time was an Honor Winner in the US Children's Africana Book Awards of 2004. Jamela's Dress - first in the Jamela series - was another milestone book, chosen by the ALA as a Notable Children's Book and by Booklist as one of the Top 10 African American Picture Books of 2000, and winning both the Children's Literature Choice Award and the Parent's Choice Silver Award. Niki lives with his wife, the illustrator Jude Daly, in Mowbray, a bustling Cape Town suburb.

Laugh aloud fun for over-kissed four to six year olds. Daly's illustrations hit just the right note.

Irish Examiner

A welcome addition to those sentimental love-in picture books featuring permanently beaming human or animal children and their parents. Bernard is a determined little boy who declares a unilateral prohibition on over-enthusiastic embraces. Wittily illustrated, this is a story for everyone.

Independent on Sunday

A splendid blend of neat narrative and high quality illustration, this impressive, large picture story book, with its brightly comic account of Bernard's resistance to his various aunts' kisses, is firmly rooted in a reality that some young children will not be slow to recognise. The outcome is both engaging and uplifting. Directed at children (and those that care for them!), it is a book which richly deeserves success.

School Librarian

A hilarious story with engaging text, the colourful illustrations are filled with detail, a caricature style adding expression to the amusing tale. A story many little boys can relate to!
