Osteoporosis is the cause of 200,000 fractures, effecting one in three women and about one in ten men over the age of 50, every year, yet the disease exhibits no symptoms or complaints until the first fracture. Dr B. Pal is a consultant in Rheumatology at South Manchester University Hospital. He is also Honorary Associate Clinical Lecturer and Tutor for International doctors at the University of Manchester. He studied in India, the USA and Britain and is the medical advisor to the South Manchester Branch of the National Osteoporosis Society. He lives in Cheshire and is married with two daughters.
