Not illustrated. 1892 Excerpt: ...must be touched up with a fine camel hair brush dipped in a mixture of No. 1 etching ink and turpentine. If used thinner than the consistency of cream, the ink will not be strong enough to hold the powder or resist the acid. As it is very difficult to makefine lines with such heavy ink, great care must be exercised at this point, otherwise the lines will be too heavy in the finished cut. Place the plate back into the powdering box and, covering it thoroughly with powder, rest it against the rail as before directed. Hold the plate by the lower left hand corner, resting the top against the strip in the powdering box, and brush in lines parallel with the top and bottom, from right to left only, lifting the brush on the return stroke. When the powder has been removed from the surface of the plate, use the softer brush with the same motion. When all the powder has been brushed out of the white spaces, bring the plate to the oven and heat as before, just sufficiently to melt the powder. Place it on the slab, and when it has cooled grasp it by the lower right hand corner and, resting the left edge against the rail, brush the powder from the top to the bottom of the plate, again taking the precaution to lift the brush on the return trip. Repeat the melting and cooling, then put it back into the powdering box. This time hold it by the upper right hand corner with the bottom edge resting against the rail and brush the powder from right to left. Melt on the powder and repeat the operation, holding the plate by the upper left hand corner, resting the right edge on the rail, and brushing from bottom to top of the design.
