In 2002, Heeb magazine made its debut. It immediately triggered a conversation among Jewish groups and the magazine quickly found a following among young Jews and hipsters, moved by its irreverence and fierce unassimilationist standpoint. The magazine features provocative interviews with personalities as varied as Naomi Wolf and the Beastie Boys and photo spreads as unlikely as a Neil Diamond centerfold and 'Sweatshop Chic' and has garnered consistent media attention and over 150,000 readers worldwide.
In 2003 Heeb launched a storytelling show - unscripted, unrehearsed and entirely experimental, they invited 7 of their favourite performers to tell a story on stage - the only restriction was that the story had to be 'Jewish,' had a 7 minute time limit and the storytellers could not use notes. The success of the events has paved the way for this book.
