Focuses on the personal and interpersonal aspects of language learning. The materials themselves broaden the personal and cross-curricular horizons of the learners, and maintain a balance between transactional, expressive and imaginative learning. The layout is deliberately uncluttered for easy pupil access. The course components accompanying the "Livre d'Eleve 1" include a teacher's book, cassette set, pupil's kit, set of full-colour OHPs and a set of flash cards. "Spirale" is a five-part French course suitable for the 11-16 age bracket and for a wide range of abilities. It is especially tailored to meet the requirements of pupils preparing for GCSE under the National Curriculum and to support pupils working towards Standard Grade in Scotland.
SPIRALE 2 consolidates Spirale 1, continuing all its good practice, but with a more mature look about it, for the older pupils, not only in its illustrations but also in its content. Most importantly, it encourages the use of French for real purposes: what pupils are encouraged to communicate is of interest and relevance to them, and they do it through enjoyable and, therefore, motivating activities. Those committed to Spirale 1 will be delighted with book 2; others committed to other courses would do well to buy in class sets of Spirale for the excellent 'extras' it offers which could supplement even the best of the new courses; for those undecided until now, Spirale 1 and now 2 are to be commended from the point of view of teachers and pupils alike.
