The dead man is Roy Palloni, the ambitious deputy manager of one of Britain's most prestigious merchant banks, who has blown out his brains after gambling away the bank's entire fortune. Or has he? Toby Slaker, the investment manager, suspects there is more to the story and uncovers insalubrious links with Roy's celebrity clients.
