Damian Drake rescues his dog from a well and gets his name into the newspapers. He then receives a letter from a girl he has never met which sparks off a long correspondence between the two. As more and more letters are exchanged a sinister thread creeps in and the story gathers speed for a final amazing drama.
Hazel Townson was formerly Chief Assistant Librarian in charge of work with young people in Bury, Lancashire. She now devotes her time to writing and for years has been going into schools and libraries to talk to children about writing. She has chaired the Lancashire Children's Book Award for 16 years.
