This text presents Jackson Structured Programming (JSP) and the more recent Jackson System Development (JSD), showing the practical applications of both.;The Jackson approach is different from most other approaches in that it attempts to provide developers with clear guidelines to tasks in hand and to explain when each task should be undertaken. It assists the developer in concentrating on the issues which are important at each step in the development process.;This book begins with a brief introduction to information systems development and the need for a methodical approach, and identifies the characteristics which make some approaches better than others. This is followed by an introduction to the Jackson approach, presented in Chapter 2.;Chapters 3, 4 and 5 introduce pre-Jackson analysis and Jackson system modelling concepts. The aim is to produce an underlying model of the problem domain, in which all information about real-world objects is captured and modelled, ready for use by user information generating functions.;Chapters 6 to 10 shift concern from real-world modelling to the specification and development of system functions, including their detailed design using the Jackson Structured Program design approach. Finally, Chapters 11 and 12 are concerned with the implementation of a Jackson specification.
