The aim of this book is to provide a simplified guide to the design of structural elements in timber. The book shows how to use British Standards, especially BS 5268: Pt 2, but cutting out much of the detail and concentrating on the essential timber design features. Many design examples are included and each stage of the calculations is explained and referenced to the relevant BS clauses. - - The book is intended for those educational establishments where timber design is taught and could be taught. It will also assist engineers and technicians who wish to design in timber but who are perhaps not as familiar with timber as they are with other materials, such as steel and concrete. In addition, the book has been written for those who are required to check timber design calculations and who wish to ensure the calculations have considered all the relevant modification factors.
