The USA and Vietnam, 1945-75 - Vivienne Sanders

This is a consideration of America's role in one of the most bitter conflicts of the 20th century. The author has written an account of the war and examines both the American and Vietnamese viewpoints, seeking to explain decisions and errors of both sides. The narrative also charts the motivation and actions of not only the American presidents, but also the Vietnamese leaders - Ho Chi-Minh, Dien, Giap, Ky and Madame Nhu. The impact of the war on the US public is examined, as are the experiences of both Vietnamese civilians and the soldiers involved in the fighting. This text includes the usual "Access to History" features of summary diagrams and advice for students on note-taking and examination skills. It hopes to encourage students to challenge themes, concepts and issues contained within this period of history.
