Turkeys were once viewed with some suspicion, being perceived as rather unpredictable, particularly when the stag birds display. However, this perception has changed over the years, as turkeys have become increasingly common at agricultural shows and have proved themselves as friendly creatures, enjoying the company of adults and children alike.
David Bland first worked with turkeys in 1951 as part of his apprenticeship before going on to study farming and poultry husbandry at agricultural college. On leaving college, he became manager of a large poultry-laying unit before going on to found his own agricultural retail business. David has written numerous magazine articles on poultry, as well as being interviewed on radio and television. He is the author of several books on poultry management and has acted as a media adviser, as well as organizing and tutoring poultry husbandry courses.
