David Jaffe (of God of War fame) and his Eat, Sleep, Play studio return to one of his other hits, 1996's PlayStation and PC title Twisted Metal, and reimagine it for PlayStation 3. The game is a fast-paced, ultra-violent driving-combat title for single and multiplayer gaming.
Four factions of psychotics are battling for control of the highly destructible gaming world. Players fight for the strange but necessary prize of a single wish fulfilled by the stylishly evil Calypso, the mastermind behind the Twisted Metal tournament.
As well as a single-player experience, which enables the gamer to get used to the controls and some of the vehicles, up to 16 players can compete through PlayStation Network.
The game sees (in story mode) gamers playing as Sweet Tooth the clown trying to hunt down the one woman who he had not been able to murder during his bloody career. It's definitely not aimed at the younger gamer.
Gamers can play online as a "Disciple" of one of four factions, each based on a classic Twisted Metal character. However, the game can also be played offline in 2- 4 player split-screen.
Despite Twisted Metal being a reboot of the older title, it does come with new vehicles, new weapons and new environments.
Weapons include missiles and miniguns, giant magnets and flying mascots. Each of the dozen-plus vehicles (including a helicopter) comes with its own primary and secondary firepowers.
