A charity institution in Kenya has been left an astronomical amount of money. But as Max Stafford discovers, investigating it becomes a lethal pastime.

The source of the 40 million fortune was unknown, a legacy wrapped in mystery. But the main beneficiary was a small college in the remote Rift Valley in Kenya. The heirs were the South African, Dirk Hendriks and the unknown, recently discovered descendant, Henry Hendrix from California.

Mild suspicion that Hendrix was an impostor led Max Stafford, security consultant, to Kenya. But the violent reaction to his arrival pointed to a sinister and far-reaching conspiracy far beyond mere greed.

'From word one, you're off. Bagley's one of the best.' THE TIMES

'As long as meticulous craftsmanship and honest entertainment are valued, and as long as action, authenticity, and expertise still make up the strong framework of the good adventure/thriller, Desmond Bagley's books will surely be read.' REGINALD HILL, Twentieth Century Crime and Mystery Writers

'Bagley is a master storyteller.' DAILY MIRROR
