Inspired by the true story of Jackie Kallen, the most successful female boxing promoter in the sport's history, this film stars Meg Ryan as the strong-willed Jewish woman, who starts out as a sports secretary but is soon driven by her determination and self-belief to become the promoter of some of boxing's top fighters. The film focuses on the relationship between Kallen and one of her young protgs, Luther Shaw (Omar Epps). The partnership is fraught with cultural and gender conflicts but is nevertheless strong and mutually reliant, until both fighter and promoter become intoxicated by the promise of fame and fortune and their own fears and flaws begin to surface.
