A box set of five Clint Eastwood films. 'Where Eagles Dare' (1968), set during World War II, sees seven Allied agents selected to rescue an American general from the impenetrable German fortress Schloss Adler. In charge of the team is British Major Smith (Richard Burton), with American Lieutenant Schaffer (Eastwood) as second in command. Parachuting into the enemy territory in German uniforms, the squad discover one of their number dead on arrival, and Smith suspects that he may have a traitor amongst his unit. Alistair Maclean wrote the screenplay and the film is reported to be amongst director Quentin Tarantino's favourites. In 'City Heat' (1984) Prohibition-era Private Eye Mike Murphy (Burt Reynolds) is forced to team up with his former colleague, taciturn Kansas cop Lieutenant Speer (Eastwood), when his partner Dehl Swift (Richard Roundtree) falls foul of the mobs' rough justice. Less than enamoured with each other, but with common aims, the unlikely duo set about bringing the city's gangster bosses to book. 'Heartbreak Ridge' (1986) sees Eastwood direct and star in this film about an ageing, foul-mouthed Marine instructor who is given the job of training recruits for combat. He also has to tackle problems with his ex-wife and an increasingly bureaucratic Marine command while hurriedly preparing his charges for the invasion of Grenada. In 'Pink Cadillac' (1989) Eastwood stars as the bounty hunter Tommy Nowak 'Skip' Tracer, the man who pulls in the fraudsters and the conmen. He finally meets his match when he is sent to trail one Lou Ann McQuinn, who has jumped bail and disappeared in her husband's bright pink Cadillac. Whilst 'White Hunter, Black Heart'. (1990) sees Eastwood produce, direct and star. Despite the end message which announces this film to be fiction, this is the thinly-veiled story of film director John Huston and the making of his 1951 classic `The African Queen'. Wilson (Eastwood) is a selfish charmer, fascinated by big-game hunting and determined to shoot an elephant.
