Six films starring Tom Cruise. In 'Collateral' (2004), Cruise stars as assassin Vincent, who hires taxi driver Max (Jamie Foxx) to take him to five different addresses over the course of one evening - and to wait outside while he carries out his ruthless business. As Max becomes aware of Vincent's true purpose - and realises that one of Vincent's potential victims is Annie (Jada Pinkett Smith), a young, friendly and attractive lawyer who rode in his cab earlier, he must find a way to prevent Vincent from killing again - and to save his own skin. In 'Days of Thunder' (1990), Cole Trickle (Cruise) dreams of winning the Daytona title on the stock car racing circuit, but his career seems to be ruined when he is involved in a near-fatal accident. However, with a young doctor (Nicole Kidman) inspiring his recovery, he determines to attain pole position on the track once more. In 'Mission Impossible' (1996), Cruise stars as master of disguise Ethan Hunt, an IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agent hunted by his own agency after a mission in Prague goes wrong. Going to ground, he enlists the help of two discredited agents to track down the real villain of the piece, a quest that takes him to the heart of CIA operations. In 'The Firm' (1993), hotshot Harvard law graduate Mitch McDeere (Cruise) is headhunted and enrolled by a small firm of lawyers based away from New York City, offering him a large pay package. When the FBI tells Mitch that the firm is a front for the illegal activities of the Mob, he investigates further - endangering himself and his wife (Jeanne Tripplehorn). In 'Top Gun' (1986), Cruise plays Maverick, a young fighter pilot enrolled at Naval college, training with the most gifted flyers of his generation, and competing for the prestigious Top Gun award. Maverick soon establishes himself as one of the best in his class, but his insistence on doing things his own way soon brings him into conflict with his superiors and his main student rival: the Iceman (Val Kilmer). Finally, 'War of the Worlds' (2005) is a big-budget adaptation of the classic science fiction novel by H.G. Wells, directed by Steven Spielberg. Divorced father of two Ray Ferrier (Cruise) is looking after his children - uncommunicative Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and precocious Rachel (Dakota Fanning) - while his ex-wife Mary (Miranda Otto) goes to Boston for the weekend. After violent electrical storms start breaking out across the world, Ray goes to investigate the results of a lightning strike further down his block, only to witness a vast armoured machine break out of the ground and start laying waste to everything in its path. Fleeing New Jersey with his children, Ray begins a horrific journey through an America gripped by panic as the alien war machines start to systematically wipe out mankind. While the hot-headed Robbie soon leaves, determined to join in with whatever resistance is possible, Ray must get young Rachel to Boston to be with her mother. On the way he is forced to take shelter with paranoid survivor Ogilvy (Tim Robbins), whose gradual mental breakdown threatens to reveal the hidden family to the aliens nearby...
