Gritty drama set in 1970s Edinburgh, based on the semi-autobiographical novel by writer/director (and former vocalist with punk band The Skids) Richard Jobson. Kevin McKidd stars as Frankie Mac, a troubled young man with a difficult past: his father was a hard drinker and his mother walked out on the family when he was only a boy. As a teenager, Frankie falls in with a street gang and becomes an alcoholic himself, although he attempts to clean up his act when he meets art-school graduate and record shop assistant Helen (Laura Fraser).
