'The Saving of Bill Blewitt' (1937) crosses documentary and fictional styles to portray the struggle of two fishermen to buy a new boat after their last one is wrecked. 'North Sea' (1938) reconstructs the difficulties facing the Aberdeen trawler 'John Gillman', which was caught up in a North Sea storm. 'The Islanders' (1939) shows life on the British islands of Guernsey, Eriskay, and Inner Farne. Finally, 'A Midsummer Day's Work' (1939) follows an engineering team laying an underground telephone cable between Amersham and Aylesbury.
