Achievement in maths - Dominic Turpin

This single-text course is for 14-16 year-olds with special educational needs following the Certificate of Educational Achievement or Certificate of Achievement in Mathematics. The course is designed primarily for those following WJEC, NEAB and CCEA (NISEAC) syllabuses. In addition, the material is compatible with SEG and EdExcel syllabuses and supports Access provision.;The material features appropriate illustrations and contexts which have been selected to reflect the students' age rather than their academic ability. Simple language and short sentences help pupils to understand the mathematical concepts introduced, whilst repetition of problems helps to consolidate learning. The presentation of exercises is varied in order to avoid pupil boredom and provision is made for individual work so that students can work at their own pace.;The student's book consists of 36 units which cover levels one to four. Each unit contains an explanation of the topic, followed by exercises practising the same skill in different contexts. The text caters for a wide range of educational difficulties, with colour-coded paths through the exercises allowing students to work at different paces and achieve manageable goals.
