A fair young curate - Frank Wain

In 1938 an earnest young Anglo-Catholic curate in Shrewsbury was preparing for ordination to the priesthood. At the same time Hitler was preparing to seize Czechoslovakia, risking the peace of Europe, with implications for the daily life of people in faraway countries of whom he knew nothing. This diary depicts life in the Church of England, in particular on its Anglo-Catholic wing, in what now seems a very remote era, when the controversial issues which caused excited letters to the Church Times were the importance of fasting before Communion and whether it was permissible to pray for the dead, rather than women priests and 'gay' bishops. And these Trollopian dramas were played out against the background of the Munich crisis...
